WOW! I admire your work... please keep it coming! As you wish. I want to add a wood fired cook stove to what would have been the fireplace, a 20th century upgrade to a 19th century building. Like these: I won't be painting this one; as it will be a master for a rubber mold. Still needs handles and doodads. Speaking of rubber molds......A manhole cover and some parts for the Mars rover being build in the SciFi section.

Nice work on the stove John! Reminds me of my late grandmothers coal stove.

The stove looks really inteesting, cannot wait to see it finished! And hell, moldmaking...Something I have to master for some small stuff I need and have done. But the stoves in the examples...is this dollhouse stuf??

Thanks for following! Work has slowed, but not stopped. Rough stairs: (You're right. It looks terrible) But here's the whole extent which can be seen with the ceiling in place. (Now you know why it's so terrible.) I'll need to patch the chipping down at the bottom of the stairs. But that will happen during the "interior decoration" portion of the show.

Looks like you've got the right level of detail on the stairs vs. what is actually viewable John! Nice little touch for sure!

WOW John, what a display of skill, man. Beautiful build process, John. Look, absolutely do not worry about the stairs width: old houses in Europe were very "particularly" built depending on the space available, budget, etc. I've seen very weird contructions around dating from the beginning of XX century (and maybe from even faaar in time), so go on without worries Later Jelly

great cork plaster work there... house building also great... the drawback of wet grouting i see is that all your precious work of painting your single plaster stones get a little bit cloaked of the grout... you spend so much time selecting the color for each single stone and painting it by hand...
first i did wet grouting too... but all my stones got really dirty of the grout. so i tried grouting another way with another side of the wall in my dio. i put dry grout into the gaps between the stones and did wet that grout after that. so the painted stones stayed nearly clean of grout... and the result in the gaps stayed the same...
but nevertheless, astonishing plaster... ;-)

Thanks for following along, gents. It's been a few weeks with figures and vehicles. But now I can get back to the little stone house exterior. I want to get this done before too much has been completed inside. The look I want: Airbrushed acrylic in about 7 or 8 earth tones.
First layer of oil based wash.
Touch ups and detail to the stones will require a few days.

Wow John your diorama just keeps getting better and better. Great tips by the way, like the use of the laminate samples. You make it look so simple but I bet it's not, looks like a lot of foresight and research has gone into this one.
May I ask what the dimensions are for the base and the scale you are doing this in.

May I ask what the dimensions are for the base and the scale you are doing this in. 1/35 scale. The foam base is 16 inches X 15 inches. The building is 180mm X 250mm. More oil paint and light colored oil washes. In the end I'm going to go with a dark grey or black wash for the building. Although dark mortar in not typical in the region I'm modeling, at 1/35 scale, the dark backdrop will set off the stones with stronger visual emphasis. As you can see here, the stone surface is still too "flat". There's no depth to the stones. Light oil wash on the right. Darker oil wash on the left. The final mortar wash will be darker still.

This is a regular construction site. Much of this reminds me of my house rehab of last year but way more innovative. Great use of common items to produce realistic effects. Awesome.

Thanks for watching! Small update. I'm declaring the bulk of exterior painting complete. Any extra will happen after the roof is on. Darkened the mortar and highlighted the stone texture with airtist's oils in a dry brush.

WOW! Great job! I like it very much!
BTW... there are three italian villages, you can buy old houses for 1 Euro. That's why most of the young people move away and lots of the houses are empty. The majors asked the owners of those houses to support his idea and most of them did. To get one of these houses you have to renovate it.
But... you have to pay a deposit (5000€) and to pay for renovation (about 50000€). And the villages are very isolated. No tourism and probably no chance to sell that house after a few years.
