Bet you're happy to get all that done and installed John. Decals worked out perfectly for that upholstery pattern.

Man, brilliant work! Any chance can we hire you to decorate our 1:1 house too?

Bet you're happy to get all that done and installed John. Decals worked out perfectly for that upholstery pattern. Yes! The roof is almost done. The interior is completely finished! Scratchbuilt the doorframe and added details to the MiniArt door.
Final lights check before committing the roof to tape and glue.
Last tiles installed and acrylic/baking soda mix used for patching up. (Still needs clean-up after things have had a day to dry.)
Overview with first couple of figures.

Thanks for stopping by. That's it! The building is done!!!There will be some landscaping and a lot of pretty vegetation. But otherwise, the "structural" portion of the diorama build is complete. The remainder will be accessory items like vehicles and figures.
Still need to patch the base of the chimney at the roofline. This is easy enough to do when the plant materials are applied. [/a]Resin fence posts to hold up the MiniArt railing to run along the sidewalk edge. (original and two castings)
first figures in primer.

Thanks to all for taking the time to post replies! Did a little gardening today in preperation for the iron fence. putting down the lawn is both my favorite and least favorite part of building large dioramas. The green adds a strong visual interest and vivid color to an otherwise very grey/brown scene. But static grass is a horrendous damned mess!
Very occasionally the modelling Gods bestow upon us a happy accident. I remember placing a layer of "too thin" grout over these areas meant to be concrete. The grout provided the desired texture, but was too watered down to provide a solid grip against the pink foam. As I pulled off the tape, the flakes and chips came away in a very pleasing pattern. Thank you modelling Gods! I will sacrifice a 1/35 figure in your name. In an ironic hobby moment, I used a heavy soaking of hairspray to help "glue" the loose surface in hopes of preventing too much flaking from occurring. The vineyard is beginning to take shape. Can you see it? I'll still need to go back with a small brush and change the color for those little spots where the pink is visible. But otherwise, I quite like the colors which were revealed by the tape.

Got to love a 'happy accident' situation! Make sure you sacrifice some extra sprue for the remaining steps. Got to keep those model gods satisfied.

Make sure you sacrifice some extra sprue for the remaining steps. Got to keep those model gods satisfied. I sacrificed three large-diameter wolf spiders throughout the course of the day. That should keep the Gods happy! Gardening is slow. But at least you don't have to weather plants.

Small update before blogging goes quiet: Tree, the old school method of twisted wire.
Put it on heavy to fill the gaps in the upper branches. I probably should have used several thinner layers. But I'm impatient and most of the limbs will be obscured behind vegetation.
Will finish up the base of the tree with sculpted epoxy putty. The blog will go dark for a few weeks as all the final elements are put together. Till then, Thanks for watching!John

i am also a fan of twisted wire trees / plants... but you always have to get the twisted branches covered with enough putty... my trees also suffer from this phenomen that the twisted structure shows through... and even if it will be covered with foliage and nobody will see these "bad" puttied parts, you will see them... always as yourself look at the tree... :-)
i hate these parts of my tree, when i look at it...

Small update: Generally pleased with roots from weeds in the backyard. Painted and glued with foam and tea leaves That's it for the big plants. Lots of small potted and hanging plants to go. But the wild vegetation is complete.

Nice trick using roots as vines, gives the perfect wild/spidery look you need for this kind of thing but in reverse!

The edging is very nearly complete and the final paint is being applied to figures over the next few days. I may.... or may not... ? ? have this dio completed by the end of this weekend. MDF with box joints and red Minwax stain. Big Red Button for turning on an off the lights. This should allow a single charge to run the lights for a whole show of several days length.

Nice work. Figures look great as do the paintings. The statue on the front seat of the car must be very small, did you make it or buy it ?. Also like the grapevines.
