Had a few hours to myself today (you know, one of those rare occasions when you have kids ) so I thought I would get started on these two awesome bananas!! I picked them up at a show recently..unfortunately most were sold out, never the less I'm happy I picked these guys up! The two will go together on a base....with some gruesome bits and pieces, and iron pole with some chains hanging off it..maybe even one freshly buried . Any other ideas?? They are extremely well cast with little or no cleaning up to do at all! Shay

Hell Shay, what is this? Bananas? Never heard of figures such as this one (shame on me? Sure!). The right seems to be Jason Vorhees with bloody blade, the left figure could be some kind of Fred Krueger? Maybe the metal claw is missing. How I would handle the stuff? MAYBE sculpt/scratch the metall knives for the left figure and do some kind of victim for Jason. The base must be something special... Lets think, what do you think about a scratched scarecrow with a Banana sculpt as basic figure, and some kind of fitting reptile bird sitting on it. To make some corn would be a great challenge and a lot of work... Or a beach scene in wet sand with a slashed down Banana bikini Beauty lying there (Blood Beach of Hell or so). Hehe, I can imagine lots of cool scenes for the little creeps! Great work so far my friend!
Frank
PS. Todd, yep, I am in. Too yummy to stay outside, harhar!

Thanks all! Tobias...I looked through some of your older postings and found another retro figure that you had painted, they are certainly fun! Todd...a bit of a change of pace compared to Pooh, but these guys were just dying (hehehe) to be painted. I also knew it wouldn't take too long before "ze Frank" caught a hold of this thread lol. Frank...some interesting ideas there mate! The corn field idea sounds brilliant, I should have the figures finished shortly so there is still time to mull over the base!! Btw Frank if you are interested in their range of figures...(hope this embeds properly ( on my IPhone) www.retrokitonline.netCheers, Shay

Frank.....your advice would come in handy mate! I want to have various bones and skulls placed on the eventual base. For the sculpting of the skulls..should I try and sculp them A) in one go B) get the shape near to what I want an use a Dremel/knives to bring the fine detail out I.e teeth and jaw bones?

Ah, new bones on the block! If you want to use human skulls, there is lots of stuff available in different scales, like from Andrea 90mm pewter human skulls par example. From the brand Phoenix exists (if you can get them on ebay) a demon skull, a sabre tooth skull and a human skull in 1:6 (as tons of Garage kits Skulls in big and bigger scales). If you have you own design you want to use, sculpting is the way to go. Maybe you can make molds and do castings if you need multiple pieces. If I would do skulls and bones, I sculpt bones in one go, which is not so difficult. Skulls are another piece of cake, here I would do more sessions. But that depends on the level of details I have to add. The more comic like stuff you will probably use here... I would only do the jaw seperate, the rest could go in one session. Hehe, but remember: Banana skulls might look a bit different from our eggheads! Have checked the site, ha, they do real cool stuff. And so different, harhar! For a scarecrow I could recommend the movie SCARECROWS, from way back 80ties cinema. In Belgium you should have no problem to get the unrated version and the possessed scarecrows they have here, they look brilliant! Always wanted to do one and a soldier in front of it. Heck, my Scrapbook is way to thick!
And show your progress here brother!

Hi, Have made some more progress on the figures so hopefully a few pictures will be up by the end of the week!! kaytermarram....thanks for the tips and extra ideas mate, it's much appreciated!! I have sourced some very nice looking skulls from a German site, your idea of casting some is a definite possibility... yet (another) new thing to have a go at!! I am seriously thinking about a "Hells Kitchen" themed diorama based on the picture below btw (not my work at all). So many things could be added to this scene...bloody water in the sink, a few arms laying about the place and some skulls and bones littered here and there, blood spatters up the walls...try to give these guys a "dark humour" kind of look!! Should be easy to replicate? What do you guys think?? Thanks in advance, Shay

WOW! It should be fun to follow... I don't think it will be that hard except for the turkeys. You will definitely have my attention if you are going for it!

What the holy heck is going on HERE?! I knew that Belgians are crazy modelers, but this is... yeah, what is it, btw? Crazy? Nuts? Weird? Amazing? Probably all together. Skulls? Look at some medieval shops or something like that - I had a candleholder here consisting of several resine skulls. Far cheaper and larger scaled. Theres a shop in Germany who sells BANANAAAAAAAAs uh I mean minions from the "Despicable me!" movie. But I cant remember which one. Im getting old. *shudder*

HELLS KITCHEN! Great idea! MAYBE I would build the dio more or less realistic, means like for some "real" figures, means a little bit like a CHAINSAW MASSACRE kitchen would look like. And do not forget the cooking pots and pans with some gruesome stuff in. Ah, you mentioned that the zombie stuff from MAIM is sold out in Belgium. Why not order direct from the producer: Check out the site: www.dersockelshop.de. It is done althouhg in english, and they have the stuff always in stock! Frank

Thanks for the comments guys!! Due to the fact that I work purely with heavily diluted acrylics, I tend to work very slowly!! Just a small update before bed with some of the base colours put in place. Our masked friend now has some "bloodshot" eyes in place (made from punched lead) and a few added coats of high gloss to bring them out a little! Sorry for the crappy photos but it is getting late here and I have an early start Cheers, Shay

Hey Frank, Hard to see on the earlier pics but he does have a claw, originally I was going to make some PE claws but went against it. Next challenge tonight is Freddys eyes, highlights and stripes (doh!)...Hope I don't make too much of a mess of him!! Dio construction is for the weekend, Shay

You can take his hat off, open the head just like an egg (harhar!) and sculpt in his evil brain. That would look cool for sure! I am very curious for the base/set! Why didn´t you make new blades??

It makes me chuckle every time I stop by here. Looking great! deafpanzer...Andy, a chuckle at my painting skills or Franks posts?? Thanks mate! kaytermarram...Cheers Frank, unfortunately for Freddy his hat will stay intact! I can sculpt a bears head but brains are a little beyond my comprehension !! I do however remember watching a Freddy movie in 3d many many years ago...3D glasses on the whole time thinking the film has crap dimensional effects until the last ten minutes of the film...bold subtitles saying "PLEASE PLACE 3D GLASSES ON"armorguy...Thanks Guy! I have actually ordered a few busts so keep an eye out! But yes they are too funny...sometimes all i can here is "banana" coming from the workbench!! Cheers, Shay

Thanks Todd, Frank and Leon!! Made some good progress this weekend getting the base made and the start of "Hells Kitchen"!! Walls and kitchen cupboards are made from styrene foam, the sink in a very fine plastic/foil. I still have to construct the oven and cupboard doors/drawers to the right hand side. I want to have part of the shelves behind the cupboard doors and a drawer or two exposed. The cork gave me some nightmares today, cutting and splicing...will have to invest in something less hassle free!! Probably going for a checkered black and white combo for the floor. Hopefully if work isn't too busy this week I will have another update shortly Thanks for checking in, Shay
