Hi guys!
Just question regarding the dio catergory. A friend told me there should an interior when it comes to open hatch much of the visible parts. I was planning to do a a burnt knocked out tank with some of the hatch open does it need an interior or blacken it out because according to him judges still check the interior as long there's an open hatch on the dio.

Good question ER!! I guess it would depend on what you feel like doing, where you will be showing and what you want for the end result. At the big IMPS Show you go to...yeah, the dudes will have mirror and penlight!!!. The smaller show you have, maybe not so much, and final the SMA BSC, well its just how you picture it I suppose. Angles of the pictures give just the hint of the interior being blown out!!!
I would first off a knocked out version with the hatches open might be a bit easier. Wires, steel, boxes, metal and various parts strewn around inside and most of it blackened....pretty easy. Most will not question the destructive nature of the interior contents. If the tank is pristine and still working, expect to be scratching a lot of left over pieces that never made it in from the kit designer. So depending on how much can be see would depend on how much you make!!
So yes, it does matter, but only to you I guess. Don't worry too much about the destruction until you get there...runn into road blocks, fire off a question or two and I think we can help out!! Like we always say around here....Fun, right?

Thanks, T
Since I'm following quite a few treads with burned out tanks, I'm thinking if the other side or the escape hatch is open should do some scratch building eventhough it already blown from the inside... even if I blacken the interior should the judges still check it?

T just about summed it up ER. It really depends on the type of show and the judges. If you model the hatches open just a little then there won't be much to see. Blown off or fully opened hatches you should have some interior, but just enough to see there is something in there. Remember that when judging a dio there is much more to the judging than just the model.....layout, story etc etc all play a big role in judging a dio. The easiest dio's to make are desert scences because there really isn't much to see or judge. It does still have to have all the essentials that make up a dio. My JT has the kit supplied interior and that's it. You can see some of what's in there but not much.
hope we helped you.
