The Hasegawa 1/700th scale waterline Akagi: A very fun kit. I'm impressed with Hasegawa's level of detail, absence of flaws, and clever part delineation. Apologies for the varying photo quality, these were taken over the last few weeks: Main construction begins: Some details: Its boats: Most of assembly complete, with primer applied: Painting can begin soon, then decals and the final deck attachment and antennae. I'm endlessly astounded by the arrangement and design of this ship. So strange and yet so logical. I hope to do the Tamiya IJN aircraft carrier waterlines someday as well, they'd all make an amazing set. Someday when I'm good enough I'll try the 1/350 Akagi with the 50 sheets of PE and wooden deck, all the extras. All the IJN carriers are interesting, but the Akagi is truly a marvel of engineering and creativity, not to mention strange aesthetics.

I agree with the guys, delta!!! we have the same boxing as with the Tamiya, Aoshima and Hasegawa in which they have the collaboration of a single company, they only change the logo but the molding is superb with minimal issues Cheers!!

Thanks Tojo72, definitely mine too of all I've seen to date. Should you ever build the 350 here I'll be watching with great interest Thanks Leon! Eastrock, interesting, I was actually curious about that, I'd thought Tamiya did the Waterline series but saw it here on Hasegawa and was a bit confused. Interesting how kits get shared across companies in this industry. Thanks! Thank you TRM! Does the other build happen to be online publicly? I'd love to watch as well if it is.

well if you plan to build again with the full hull, the Fujimi series would be a great choice.

Nice start to this one! The Akagi has an interesting design history for sure. You should check out it's 'original' configuration...it has an almost sci-fi feel to it with the multiple flight decks.

Thanks Bill! I've seen the original, if I recall correctly there's a limited edition Hasegawa of it. I'd love to do that one someday and keep the two together. Variants to put next to the big 350 someday. Is the middle deck considered a flight deck though? It seems too short to launch anything. Even the lower deck seems on the short side.

Variants to put next to the big 350 someday. Is the middle deck considered a flight deck though? It seems too short to launch anything. Even the lower deck seems on the short side. When it was first launched, it was equipped with biplanes and those have a relatively short take-off run due to their generally slow airspeed requirement to get airborne, so I guess it was possible...but after a while, advances in aviation made it impractical and the number of decks were reversed.
