Hey everyone, I am working on Academy's 1/48 F-86F30 and I am coming up on an issue. The decals are really bad, really thick, and just overall crappy! Yes, that is being nice. The issue I am having is that I am now almost at the point of where I am going to be decaling and I need to use the stencils. Does anyone have any tips regarding working with really thick decals? It is either that or I am going to have to put this on hold for a couple of weeks. Thank you all....

Yeah..Academy's in house decals are awful. Solvaset seams to be about the best solution for getting thick decals set, but even then it fails sometimes (like with Tamiya decals). There's a pretty steep learning with the stuff. You have to apply it to the decal and not touch the thing until it's fully dry. You can not move it, you can not touch it at all, or disaster. It also can take multiple applications. The best option when dealing with Academy decals though is to just go aftermarket.

May just have to bite the bullet and go that route. Will need to put the model on hold for a bit then.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the precipitate.

On the bright side, there are TONS of 1/48 Sabre decals out there. Heck, I may have a few sheets in my sell/trade pile. Of you're interested I can dig around.
I also have sworn to never use their decals again unless I have no other option!
