Yes, It is my Understanding that VOR-Panzer just means Up/added armor. I have seen/read about Vor-panzer III's IV's and even a VorPanzer Tiger.
Looking Great Elco.

Thnx B-J! Next update Paint! The basecoat of Lifecolor Panzer Grey is added and sealed with Vallejo Satin varnis and the first decals are placed and sealed again. HS and Tamiya sand color were next sprayed on and after they.. Chipping time. Still working on that (pics next time). Don't you just love vacation and shitty weather

Looks like you're making the most of it Elco! Nice progress on the painting. The Germans sure did love to play around with their different platforms. Vorpanzer refers specifically to spaced armor...the idea of fitting additional armor on frames to the existing 'standard' armor to provide additional protection without overstressing the chassis design. Kind of like schurzen on steroids! Up-armoring just bolted or welded additional plates directly onto the existing plates without any sort of gap. Eventually they figured out that it was more effective to slope armor and increase the thickness vs. the spaced armor arrangements when trying to defeat AP rounds from penetrating and 'Vorpanzer' arrangements only went into full production with the Pz III J-Ns as a standard arrangement. They did try it out though as BJ mentioned on IVs and Tiger Is since those were all being produced in the 1942 period when Vorpanzer was all the rage.

Bring on the chipping and weathering. Ok... It took some time to place the decals but they blended in perfect! The HS did his work for the first worn look. Now let's make it a dusted DAK warrior

Looking great.. Question on the HS Technique.. Did you put the HS down thick.. The first time I tried it I couldn't get it to chip. I got a nice lift and look like faded paint but couldn't it to chip. I want to try it again on my 8 Rad, but trying to figure out what I did wrong so I don't repeat the same thing.

Thnx Bill, playing around with some dust tones Wes, thnx mate! BJ, a couple of layers should do the trick, 3-4. It looks like you used not enough HS, the water must solve it so when there is not much on it nothing will happen. It also depends on the paint your using. This the first time i used Tamiya paint, most of the time Vallejo but like most say with Tamiya is the best and it works just fine When the HS is dry and you spray thin (!) paint layers and let it dry for 20 minutes the fun begins. Using a damped brush to wet the surface (not to wet) to soften the paint and HS and after that slowly brush the surface with a almost dry pencil, like dry brushing. When working too wet the paint just flies of. I also have the chipping medium but prefer HS. I would be happy to do a workshop but your not living around the corner

Thanks, That's what I did, Not enough.. I have a bottle of HS that uses the pump so I just poured into the Airbrush cup and sprayed it like I would paint. Obviously To thin. Will lay it on heavier this next go around as I am hoping for a beat to crap desert sandblasted look. Building is no problem.. Painting/weathering/Finishing has always been my big struggle. Hence not a lot of finished models in the ol portfolio.

A couple of dust layers applied on the model. I used the AK enamel dust tones and a mix of buff and washbrown oils from 502 Abteilung. Building up the layers using the colors random gives a nice subtile variation. Below you see the blending of the AK Afrika Dust. The engine deck hatches recieved a couple of AK dust effects so a nice transition of colors is visible More heavy dust is build up in the corners and on the fenders. More 2 come!

Wes, i use all kind of mixtures, it also depents how a product react on tinning/blending, a bit hard to explain..
But one of my favorite methods is using products out of the bottle, enamels/oils and blend them in to the paint.
