Hi all Ive been keen to practice my painting recently and needed a practice subject Picked this old kit up recently for very very cheap. So any screw ups wont be a costly mistake. After a couple of hours of building and some primer this afternoon im here. And my first ever wheels on stick shot. Wooohoo. Im off to an oyster and beer festival tomorrow for 4 days, so will only get back to this next week. Looking forward to hearing your guys input and help.

Nothing goes with oysters and beer like wheels on a stick! Have fun and enjoy the festival. Looking forward to more on this little test bed.

Old ... This model will make another 30 years! The simplicity of construction and cost against the more accurate, but complicated in construction and expensive models of Dragon & AFV
Wes - Looks good! Nice to look at.

Thanks for taking the time to respond gents. Well the oyster festival was a massive blast. Way too much beer, but lots of laughs. Work has finally let up a bit and lastnight i got down some colour after a bit of pre shading. I plan to lighten spots tonight or tomorrow. I didnt have a clue on what to use for Russian green so I mixed up my own and let it fly. Let me know your opinions on the colour.

I seem to recall much lively discussion about the color Russian green in the past and never could figure out why as it's kind of hard to discern shades of green from black and white photos. Were I you I'd not get over concerned about this; you can change the shade with filters and washes anyway. I'd be willing to bet there were many different hues/shades in that era depending on if it was Uncle Vanya or Boris mixing the paint that day. Just my thoughts.
Nice job!!
Regards, Mark

Thanks mark
Your comment about uncle Vanya or Borris and the paint mixing really made me laugh. Hope to get back to this on the weekend.

Looks good with the green on! Add in some dust/dirt, fading, etc. and you're not going to have much of a 'true' green to point to...especially if Mark's Uncle Boris has been in the vodka!

Hi all. A huge painting failure with the old kit made me scrap it and grab another out the stash and put it together. Instead of Tamiya paints this time I decided to try vallejo model air. Some hints and advice from Todd (TRM) and all I can say is Im hooked. Easy to clean up, no hectic smells, no thinning needed. The list of positives goes on and on. A pin wash of burnt umber and a seal of matte coat and this is where I stand with build number 2. Im pretty happy so far. Let me know your thoughts.

Too bad about the old kit, new kit appears to have gone quite well. I like the subtle difference in tone especially; you've blended it all together in an attractive fashion.

Understand the "life gets in the way" bit, completely. I'll take a peek later, interesting.
