Hello all. Project Bumble Bee is finished - time to tackle a new SciFi project. Its a true classic: Kow Yokoyamas "NutCracker". The plan is to place it into nuclear winter scenery, with a Gustav, a Melusine (both included in the kit!) besides it. Some Dragon Gen2 soldiers in winter clothing are in my stash as well. Meanwhile, the diorama is ready for some paint: Thanks for watching. CC is always welcome. Lucas.

Welcome to the WIP. Unfortunately, the Dragon figure needs some extra work due to fitting issues. Never mind, nothing thats impossible. I wonder how those figures will look amongst the Melusine and the Gustav. Diorama was all painted with three kinds of rattle cans: Anthracite (= Nato Black, some kind of khaki tone (Montana Gold 1080 Everglade) and of course some white. Final treatment will be baking soda brought on with a fine tea mesh or similar.

I'm not a fan of these subjects, but you've started a very promising project. And that Buddha is just amazing, also winter weathering on Melusine, can't wait to see your next steps! Cheers, Nicolae

@leon:Hey mate, glad youre here. dp:No worries mate, Im sure you had some fun the last days. nicusi:
This project has a good balance inho: its a scifi object, with some figures added and those are slightly rebuild. One of the soldiers will get a dieselpunkish backpack made from spare parts, PE parts and guitar strings. And I can practice some weathering techniques, cause I really need to practice. There are some really interesting tank projects going on here, maybe I can steal some techniques. all:I just added some snow made from baking soda on the diorama to give it more depth and realism (at least I hope so ), pictures will follow soon...

Your Budda looks fantastic. I brought some little resin Buddas for a couple of dollars at some markets in Vietnam a few weeks ago with the idea of one day doing a crumbling temple diorama. Your scene here helps show what can be achieved. Great work !

Muchas gracias, Kiwi. Glad it helps for your projects. Where did you stay in Vietnam? We did a tour that started in Hanoi. Up to Houlong Bay. Visted Hue, Hoi An, then Ho Chi Min city. Fantastic. Such friendly people. Ho Chi Min was just another big city but the rest was great. Tour then went on to Cambodia and finished in Bangkok.

The Gustav figure follows... Same winter camo like the Melusine, but with not-so-excessive damages. Some small details like a new figure head, lead wire and some small PE parts for the interior had been added. I left the front canopy away atm, so you can have a better look at it, of course it will follow later. As well as decals and washings. Originally, the Gustav has a Panzerfaust in his hands, but I wanted a mechanic figure. so I had to rebuild the hands of him.

...and a little side project is finished too: an antenna post. It was kitbashed from a 1/35 milk can, a 1/32 P-38 Lightning landing gear, guitar strings and profiles. I needed something to test rust techniques before I start the NutCracker. In the end it was not that difficult. Thanks to some hints of Jochen/joeydee I tried and Im quite happy with it.

Hi, If you need more fellows in winter clothing you might want to consider these: www.dersockelshop.de/soviet-heavy-artillery-crew--1-35 They’re actually these: www.miniart-models.com/35037.htm but upgraded with a new sprue of extra heads (including fur hats) and a load of goodies: www.miniart-models.com/35185.htmNote that the original heads with the tank crew headgear are still on the figure frame, so with two heads for each figure on the added sprue (one for the fur hat and one to go with the new helmets on the equipment sprue) you have three heads per figure( and the spares box)! The new heads designed for the helmets will presumably accommodate the unusual SSh-36 helmets as well as the common SSh-40. The SSh-36 helmets are also on the equipment sprue, and will give figures a more exotic appearance. Cheers, M

Innnnnteresting! I've tried to avoid the 1/35 scale Ma.K stuff just because there's so little of it compared to their 1/20 offerings. Obviously the HUGE advantage is being able to use all of the available 35th goodies for dios etc. May have to reconsider.

Leon: Thank you mate! Bill: I have tons of spare parts here, and theyre just too good to throw them away. Thats the main reason why Im kitbashing at least some of them. Serzh: Many thanks to you too. Its more simple than it looks. You just need tons of baking soda and hairspray (and some glass powder if you want to go for shiny snow). M: Those are great, thanks for those links. I decided to use German Wehrmacht soldiers instead of Russian soldiers. The NutCracker is in foreign service - former German, now with a big red star, including its mechanics & infantry (the Nutcracker itself can be considered as a heavily armed drone). dupes: You nailed it - the possibility of creating a bettr diorama with lower costs is most important. Theres loads of 1/20 stuff too, but its always a bit expensive...
