I can imagine how you work! And I see the end of the project before my eyes and it will look really cool when it comes out the way you planned. Maybe the model can be used for stop motion film making, harhar! Frank Cheers Frank. The way I work? I'm a bodger, but I do it with German efficiency I really hope it will turn out the way I imagine it. It possibly could be used for stop motion - but it's a bit old-school in the age of CGI (do yourself a favour and don't look up what your name means in German ) Well that's torn it! You know I just had to after you mentioned it I guess the term "thick as two short planks" sums it up nicely! Brett What can I say? I tried to save your dignity, but you just wouldn't listen... Very cool, looking forward to seeing this finished Thanks PJ2 - so am I! Well done dierk!! I'll make sure my son sees the update on this tonight!! Andrew Much appreciated Andrew! Here's some more stuff for him to look at. Added the railing around the top of the hull. I used 1mm copper tube and so the corners don't crease I fed some 0.3mm wire down it: Also made up a kind of grill for the back - don't ask me what it is, some sort of stiff gauze I found in my stash, and a couple of modified Evergreen 'L' profiles: Well, that's it for now.

Thanks for the positive feedback gents - much appreciated!
Started on making up some plates to cover the insides of the upper legs (thigh fillets?) As the kit plastic is 1.5mm thick, I found it quite difficult to make up a template. Basically I placed the kit part on some thin sheet styrene, drew around the outer edges with a mechanical pencil, cut out the template and slimmed it down until it sort of fit. Hopefully I'll have some pictures later.

Cheers gents! Let the butchery continue! Some shapely legs to show you - those big chunky strips on the top are going to go: they are intended for the clockwork mechanism to move the legs: I think I can get away with articulating just one of them - there goes the stop-motion idea. I've also replaced the chunky plastic whatchamacallit at the back of the leg with a bit of brass strip: Once the putty has gone off and everything's been sanded to shape I'll be adding some structure to the inside of the 'thighs' with some strip styrene and whatever else I can come up with: The feet are way too big, but I think I'll just scratch the missing half instead of making up completely new ones - this is never going to be competition for Bandai, but I never intended it to be. Last major hurdle is going to be articulating the 'ankle' - still mulling over how to do that. Thanks for taking the time to pop by and hope you enjoy what you see.

It begins to look AWESOME!! And why no competition??? I aways think, that doing such detailing and correcting stuff yourself is far more better and more satisfying than pimping together a kit which leaves nearly no room for improvements. GO ON Dierk, this is fantastic work!

I like the bracket. The lander needs a similar part around the gunner's position. I wasn't sure if I would go with plastic rod or brass wire. But you've helped me decide.

I aways think, that doing such detailing and correcting stuff yourself is far more better and more satisfying than pimping together a kit which leaves nearly no room for improvements. GO ON Dierk, this is fantastic work! Frank Thanks Frank! Glad you're liking it so much! I don't think I'll ever go further than the occasional MoM entry - I don't think I could handle spending a whole day (or even TWO) at a model show waiting for a result...I get bored too easily I do enjoy going to town on a dog of a kit and turning it into something special, and, I'm afraid, my OOB days are over - at the very least I need to throw some AM stuff at it, even if it just a set of tracks. Dierk, that is awesome mate! Your doing a great job turning this into something fantastic. Cheers Leon! There are still quite a few big jobs to do one this - like the bit the legs mount onto (chassis?) It's nothing like 'the real thing' and will really stretch both my abilities and patience... What I told the others Andrew Beefing up the legs nicely Dierk. Carry on! Thanks Bill - I'll do my best! I like the bracket. The lander needs a similar part around the gunner's position. I wasn't sure if I would go with plastic rod or brass wire. But you've helped me decide. Cheers John - glad to have been of service! Those are some sexy legs. HAHA. Sounds too wrong. Great work Dierk Thanks Wes - that ZZ Top song keeps going round my head, now Not much today, just gave the thighs a bit more volume with some bits of strip and rod styrene, and replaced the watchamacallit (sinewy, springy doodah) on the other leg. Managed to cut the other strip of brass narrower than the first one and didn't notice until it was well and truly CAed into place: That's all I've got for you today. Enjoy nonetheless.

Nice legs you show us Dierk ! The mechanism looks totally awesome ! Nice one Guy! They certainly look better than my biological ones: 30odd years of riding motorbikes, and especially the nine I spent as a motorcycle courier left their marks... More butchery: the chicken walker's chassis has got hips. I left the original leg mountings on for demonstration porpoises only: Original mountings gone: And the ones on the legs removed too: Feet might be next. Thanks for looking and ACW.

Thanks Leon!
Well, I had hoped to get away with just articulating the foot, but the leg-position that I'm planning would've looked wrong - so more sawing has happened. It's already too dark to take pictures, and at the moment there's not much to show you: just a bunch of dismembered bits of leg. 4 to be precise, soon to be more. Hopefully I'll have something to show you tomorrow.

Definitely a case of Extreme Makeover here Dierk! Well Bill, just as little as a leopard can change his spots, much as I'd like to most of the time, I can't deny my cultural heritage: Germans have always had extremist tendencies - sometimes it works out and something good comes of it, more often than not it ends up biting them in the ar$se though.

Just a quicky. Got the basic shape of the first foot sorted, but still need to add a bit of structure to it. As I didn't have any sheet styrene thick enough I ended up glueing two sheets together(2mm and 1.5mm I think), drew the shape on it using the kit half-foot as a template, cut it out using scissors and then sanded the bejeesus out of it. Once my fingers are slightly less sore I'll do some more: Starting to feel quite at home on the dark side of modelling

Catching up... sorry for being late! AT-ST is one of my favorites and I am happy to see one being build right here. People are saying that Dragon may release one in 1/35 scale!

Thanks Guy and Leon, glad you're liking what you see! Catching up... sorry for being late! AT-ST is one of my favorites and I am happy to see one being build right here. People are saying that Dragon may release one in 1/35 scale! If they do its going to be quite a chunky humdinger: this one is about 5 inches, so on a 1/1 size of 24 feet that makes the AMT kit a guesstimated 1/48 to 1/50 if my mental arithmathingy isn't letting me down again. No doubt the parts count (and cost) will be a touch higher than my kit too (and the instructions will have more mistakes ) Might also be a bit more accurate... Got the second foot done as well - really surprised myself by getting them identical! Also added the inside 'ankles': Enjoy!

Looks like a solid footing to work from Dierk! I think you're right about the Dragon offerings...Dragon will be Dragon! I'm still waiting to see what the sticker shock will be on their 1/35 AT-AT.

Great progress here, Dierk. From the looks of it, yours will outshine the Dragon version, hands down.
