Looking good my friend! Here''s interesting information about Dragon kit... a friend posted recently and I thought you may be interested. Thanks Andy! The Dragon kit certainly looks the business. The way their prices have been developing recently I'd probably have to sell a kidney to afford it, though. Looks like a solid footing to work from Dierk! I think you're right about the Dragon offerings...Dragon will be Dragon! I'm still waiting to see what the sticker shock will be on their 1/35 AT-AT. Cheers Bill! If I was a betting man I'd say around the $100 mark for the AT-AT. Great progress here, Dierk. From the looks of it, yours will outshine the Dragon version, hands down. You're too kind Bob. There are certain inaccuracies in my base-kit that are beyond my limited abilities (or will) to fix, so mine will 'only' ever be a model and not a replica. More fun than just glueing bits together. I'm calling the feet done! If I were to do it again (god forbid) I'd add the structure to the scratched part of the feet first, before sticking them to the kit part. Simply couldn't get a file/sanding stick in there properly - but it'll do. While I was messing around with the feet I also cut a gap between the 'toes': Also hacked the chassis about, cutting bits off and adding sheet: Added some bits sawed off the front of the chassis and the housing for the clockwork mechanism that I wasn't going to use anyway: I'll end up moving the ankle position on the leg closest to the camera, but wanted to show you a dry-fit picture: Now, I'll have to make the engine housing that goes on the backend of the chassis - wish me luck. I know I said I wasn't going to buy any goodies for this kit, but there's something on the way for me to make the coupling between the chassis and the hull - all will be revealed, eventually. See you soon!

More slash and gash here, even more than in every CHAINSAW MASSACRE movie! Love it, this will be a real Masterpiece and it shows, that doing such stuff in scrach is "no problem" at all! Keep it going, I watch with patience!
As far as the Dragon stuff: There is a SNOWSPEEDER, too! Hopefully in 1:35! And I definitly wait with sculpting some characters from the movies, maybe there will be some Gen² figures, harhar! And if I have to have a credit, the Dragonkits will be MINE!

Glad you're enjoying the gore-fest that used to be an AMT kit Frank - I should've given it an '18' rating ( Andrew: maybe you should stop showing this thread to your son - woulnd't want to be responsible for corrupting him ) As for the snowspeeder: you're in luck (soon to be debt?) Frank - check out the Twitter link Andy posted on the previous page. A bit further down are some piccies of it with a 1/35 figure added to show the size. Looks great with a nice cockpit as well and, no doubt, a pricetag to match.

I decided to change the sidearmour of the hull to something closer to the 'real thing' by making a paper template, sticking it to some alufoil, cutting it out and sticking it to the hull using CA gel. I stuck it to the top edge first and then bent it down: Next the 'engines' and then primer. Only other thing I need to make is the flexible connection between chassis and hull, but a) the material for that hasn't arrived yet, and b) I don't think I need to paint it. Thanks for looking and ACW.

Thanks for the kind ego-massage Guy, 'joybringer' is one of my middle names (moaning git is one of the others)! I always guessed the 'C' stands for comments - but what do I know? Cheers Leon, always appreciate your comments. If I wasn't such a stingy mofo I'd buy another one one of these and OOB it as a contrast to this one.

This might look really cool but could end up in a mess: Imagine a viewer who said, looking good, but I love the right one more. And this is the OOB kit, muharr! But as seen here, you are a Master of cutting away and the old slashing it all game. So I see no real problems here...
Coming up nice! Man, I would love to add some ideas or constructive comments, but your work is too cool to do so!

I'm a great one for offering critiques, but I only will do so on subjects I'm familiar with... and this isn't one of them. All I can say here is that you're doing great work.

I'm a great one for offering critiques, but I only will do so on subjects I'm familiar with... and this isn't one of them. All I can say here is that you're doing great work. Cheers Bob! I know how you feel - this is my first foray into both scratch-building and a non WWII soviet subject. I have been told though that your brains are the ones to pick for a project I'm planning to start this year: a soviet captured Panther Ausf A. If you're game I can PM you a link to the three pictures I know of, so you can shed some light on a few bits I'm not sure about - and probably some I hadn't even considered. Basic construction of the sub-assemblies is all but done, unless Frank throws a spanner in the works and comes up with some great ideas I can add... I decided to make the engine housing out of sheet metal to save myself the hassle of trying to line up several bits of sheet plastic: I'd have liked for it to be a bit more symmetrical, but my ambition exceeded my skills, and I wasn't going to sacrifice more of my sheet-brass for a second attempt that had no guarantee of turning out better: The grills were made of the same mystery material I used on the hull. A bit more sanding and Robert's going to be your father's brother: The observant amongst you will notice I added some more gubbins to the front of the chassis - sawn off from the clockwork housing. Turns out I won't have to repostion the ankle after all...bonus! Might have time to throw a layer or two of primer at all the various bits this evening. The stuff I'm going to use to make the flexible connection with arrived today as well - love it when a plan comes together! Thanks for your time and ACW!

Thanks for your continuing support and kind words gents! Just a quicky without pictures to let you know what's happening: I slapped some paint on it and put it all together, so the AT-ST is now in one piece. Unfortunately, the paint is way too dark - I used the Panzergrau modulation set and didn't pay enough attention to what I was doing, going from dark to medium and back to dark again...probably been breathing in too many fumes . Anyhoo, I'll try and lighten up the paint with a few coates of heavily thinned light grey tomorrow - should aid the modulation somewhat too. I was going to add curved shields to the hip-joints, but only remembered once the paint was well and truly flying - it'll probably look OK without them.

You've made some considerable improvements. A good forest scene could really set off the model. In dem Schwarzwald?

You've made some considerable improvements. A good forest scene could really set off the model. In dem Schwarzwald? Don't even need to go that far John - one of the good things about this place is that 2/3 of Germany is covered with woods, and quite a few of them are managed at 'arm's length', i.e. if a tree keels over it is left where it falls. Anyway, der Schwarzwald is deep in enemy country (Bavaria) That looks fantastic Dierk! I like the tree trunk and articulation on the leg.You did an awesome job on this. Karma to you mate. Thank you very much Leon! Very much appreciated!

Yap, what they say! Is the tree trunk a hunk of resin or the real deal? Looks totally realistic to me and I hope for a jungle base deluxe here, hehe!

That really is rather good!!!
A top job all round - especially given your limited modelling environment!
Out of interest how much of the original model is left?

Getting into the interesting parts now Dierk, you've definitely upped the game with the improvements to what you started with. Just don't forget to provide some Ewoks as targets!

Beautiful ! Tremendous facelift mate ! Thanks Guy! Glad you're liking it! Yap, what they say! Is the tree trunk a hunk of resin or the real deal? Looks totally realistic to me and I hope for a jungle base deluxe here, hehe! Frank Ha, I wish my painting skills were good enough - no, it's not resin, sometimes you just can't beat nature! It's quite moist around here, so finding bits of wood covered in lichen (Flechten) is easy. Don't know about 'deluxe' but I'll give it my best shot. Dierk That really is rather good!!! A top job all round - especially given your limited modelling environment! Out of interest how much of the original model is left? andrew Thanks Andrew ! To answer your question: not much the only parts that weren't modidied are the hip-joints (made up of two parts each) and the gunpods on the side of the hull. Other than that, some of the lid of the box that contained the clockwork mechanism which I turned into the chassis with some scratch-built additions and some bits that I sawed off the clockwork box. Most of the legs and the upper hull. Compare it to the sprue shot: Getting into the interesting parts now Dierk, you've definitely upped the game with the improvements to what you started with. Just don't forget to provide some Ewoks as targets! If the base turns out the way I plan it - and I have about as much experience making bases as I had scratching before starting this - it's the AT-ST that'll be on the receiving end
