After hearing of Garys sudden departure from this world yesterday from Kyle, (the thread about Garys passing can be read here Gary Davis ) I thought it only fitting to make this Octobers Showcase Build in the header a month-long tribute to him. I first met Gary online at the IPMS forum and we instantly became online friends. I would see him again on Scale Auto and Motorsport Modeling forums and it was always a treat to see him at the different places. He was the kind of guy that did post about his builds and talked about them, but he was equally interested in others builds and other folks in general. A fun guy with a great disposition and he's really going to be missed not only by me but I'm sure by those who have interacted with him here and abroad in the modeling communities. For October's first feature, we'll showcase his last build here with us which was the Marty Robbins '34 Ford Modified. I was surprised to find out that Marty Robbins had a dirt track car and later on....a NASCAR race car. Gary really did this one up nice with great attention to detail and again with his paint work. One heckuva job there Gary. You good sir....are gonna be missed. The original thread: Gary Davis-Marty Robbins 34 Ford Modified

I talked to Gary about this multiple times throughout the build. He was really happy with this one especially considering he only had the album cover and one other photo to go off of. A really nice build that showcases his skill nicely. Love the Gary Davis showcase month idea Joe!!

A very beautiful build. I had no idea Marty Robbins was also a NASCAR driver.

A very beautiful build. I had no idea Marty Robbins was also a NASCAR driver. Robbins was a huge racing fan and used his music career to fund his racing career. He started out on short tracks in cars like the one Gary built, then moved into NASCAR’s second division in the 60s. By the 70s he was able to run with the big boys of NASCAR and paid the legendary Cotton Owens to build and maintain his Dodge Charger race cars. Always painted some variation of purple and gold or magenta and chartreuse depending on the photos and who you ask. He ran part time for several years with some strong runs. His last race was about a month before he died in 1982. Cool guy Marty Robbins

Joe, it was very nice of you to come up with the idea of doing a tribute to Gary. He will not be forgotten that way.
