I've been wanting Steve to be a part of this site for a while now so when he came aboard I was pretty excited as he brings a wealth of talent and knowledge to the automotive area of our forum. That's certainly not to say that we didn't already have that here but Steve brings his own curve ball to the place. Builds like this W-30 show just what I'm talking about in regard to his skillset. Along with amazing photography to help bring out the best in an already smokin' hot build is this true labor of love which is one of my personal favorites from him. Great going on a fine end product Steve. Just beautiful good sir and has its place at the top of this weeks banner. The finished thread : Jo-Han Oldsmobile 442 W-30

Well there isn't anything else to say about this build other than it is definitely a well deserved banner choice. Stunning.

Good thing I don't compare myself to anyone otherwise I'd be boxing up all my kits for the next garage sale.

It's said with lovin nostalgia... the music, tv shows, movies, girls/women, and many other things of that era I love... the fashion and car colors, not so much...

You hpoing for bell bottoms and tie dye Stik? Could be Sea Foam Green LOL. I say that with loving nostalgia as well. That is one good looking hunk of American Iron.

I love all those awful colors they used to use. Always makes for a very period appropriate feeling build when you break out a nice sea foam green or metallic brown, or something.

I'm a bit more partial to 80's fashion with narrow collars & ties, not that wide stuff Yeah Sea Foam green was definitely picked by somebody with 70's tastes... not too far from some Avocado Green stuff of my youth! Yes, the car is great looking... big old classic Detroit! Kinda like the Olds Cutlass my friend had and we used to cruise around in back then...

I'm an '80s -' 90s kinda guy too. 1986 Monte Carlo SS, Black with red trim and T tops, don't care if they leak, '86 Regal T-Type...lil bro to the GNX and Grand National...one fast family coupe. '94 Nissan Hardbody 4×4 probably best pickup I ever had, well except for my '17 F-150 4×4. Sorry memory lane.

Yeeees I remember this build from MCM forum. In fact, it is unforgettable really, I like these cars and that color with the dog dish wheels is perfect. What is next on your bench?

I've posted the beginnings of a 1964 Pontiac Lemans convertible project in the WIP section.

Great looking build! But man those less than attractive 70's Detroit automotive colors...
It's funny, but I get a lot of the "why did you pick that color?" comments with a lot of my builds.
All that I can say is that when I begin the process of selecting a color for a project, I not only want it to reflect the period in which the car came from, but I want it to be something that's a little more unusual and interesting than the "usual" colors.
We all appreciate a "Plum Crazy" or "Sublime" 1970 Dodge Challenger, but Jeesh!
I think it's pretty obvious to all of us that you see WAY more Plum Crazy Challengers on the forums and groups than you EVER saw on the road.
In the end, when I choose a color, I purposely stay away from the colors that "everyone else" is using, and gravitate towards a period color that you don't see everywhere you look.
I look at it from the perspective that even though the color might grab your attention negatively initially, it still grabbed your attention!

I hear ya Steve. Makes it a little more real world. You did really good on capturing that effect with this one.

Thanks Joe!
Here's a few more "period" colors that some might find ugly.
Personally, I love them all.

Steve, I agree with you wholeheartedly about colors. I like different colors as well and generally research which cars look better in certain colors. Of course this is subjective, but mainstream colors look better on certain cars and not on others. In fact some customers of vintage muscle cars thought similarly and ordered their cars in these colors, and thus made them more unique and valuable today. You are very talented, Steve, and overcome the biggest challenge in car modeling, which is making a scale replica look real. Keep them coming, and I will check out your WIP.

Those are all indeed some very fine examples of your modeling as well as examples of out of the ordinary colors. Steve that has always been one of my faves out of you, not just because it's a sports car and all but because of all the time and work that you put into this to make it what it is.....a showcase model.
