Hello guys
Ive joined the group build, but struggling to find a tank subject to build. It will be my first ever tank build, so looking for something not too complex and not too expensive. 1/35 scale Soviet or German, I dont mind. Any ideas?

Apart from the Indy link tracks which are a bit of a PITA, they are nice and easy to build and won't break the bank.

Hobby boss T-26 series is also very nice. Nice little tanks, which were the most available ones in USSR by this time.

I have T-26 metal tracks from Masterclub on their way, these shall be decent. Trumpeter KV-1/2 is a nice kit! However, you need to be careful when building - most kits are not fitting perfectly into some timeframe and are a mix-and-match of different versions. A great guide how to build one is available on www.4bogreen.com/

The light tanks from hobby boss are good. I am going to order the T-30S with some tracks. Also the zis-30 with a metal barrel and figures are on the list.

Hello guys Ive joined the group build, but struggling to find a tank subject to build. It will be my first ever tank build, so looking for something not too complex and not too expensive. 1/35 scale Soviet or German, I dont mind. Any ideas? Well, i can give you an advice about some russian stuff. Hobbyboss 1/35 - T-26 - 8136 of these light tanks were made. Low costs and looks quite nice out of the box. Moscow winter camo is higly recomended - T-40 - Amphibious scout tank. Very small and quickly build. The most work are the tracks. Also low costs and look very cool in winter cammouflage. - T-30S - The non amphibious version of the T-40. This here, i find the most intresting of the Hobbyboss light tank series. Lots of variations can be made using the T-30 as a base. Komplex zip makes some ''disk wheels'' for it, seen on the T-40, T-60, T-70 and T-80 types. Personally i don't like the spokes wheels... With disk wheels and a rebuild of the 20mm Shvak to the 12,7mm DsHk type gun, you can have a T-40S (the S stands for land only types). For the scratchbuilders, they can rebuild it to a T-60 with the help of some good 1/35 scale plans. The first series build, had a T-30 turret on it (small batch although). When production was going, the well known welded turret was placed. - T-37A - Also a quick build and cheap kit. again, most work are the tracks. HTH, Remco

It will be my first ever tank build, so looking for something not too complex and not too expensive. 1/35 scale Soviet or German, I dont mind. Any ideas? Trumpeter's KVs are cheap, easy and well designed with a minimum of fiddly parts. Tamiya's BT-7s are also excellent. The Hobby Boss kits are a good suggestion, but they have some issues. The T-26 is not terribly accurate and the tracks on that kit, the T-37A and the T-30 are a nightmare. Look around for some reviews before you commit. Regards Scott Fraser

Hey,
In 1:35 Pz 38(t) - Dragon or Tristar Pz 35(t) - Academy or Bronco Pz. I - Dragon or Tristar Pz. II - Dragon/CyberHobby Pz. III - Miniart, Dragon, CyberHobby Pz. IV - Dragon, Tristar Of course, you can go with armored cars, or other nice vehicles, too. An armored train would also be quite cool.
Russians: T-26 - Hobby boss BT-2/5/7 - Tamiya T-34 - Dragon KV series - Trumpeter T-30/T-40/T-60/T-70 - Hobby Boss and Miniart

Hey there, I was seriously thinking in jumping into this GB with a simple, representative, and affordable subject... some of the Hobby Boss "minor brothers" in the "RKKA", this is: T-26´s, T-37´s and so, you know, these deadly & diminutive self propelled coffins ... but I´m reading here that their tracks where more or less a nitemare... ... in the other way, I´ve found a build review written by Good Ol´Todd (TRM) about a T-37 being built by him very quickly ( tracks included) ... You could find it here: TRMs almost-OOB Hobby Boss T-37 reviewGuys, in the modelling world I consider myself more or less like one of the Three Stooges , but IMHO, it does not seems so terrible (still talking about those little tracks...)... Am I wrong? overconfident with these? Are they much more difficult that Modelkastens one (I must recognize that they took A LOT of time to be assembled... ) Hey guys, are those T-37 tracks VERY different from the ones to be found in the T-26 series?? or just the same "style" (from a modelling point of view)? Later Jelly

The tracks are completely different. Here's a review of the T-30 from AMPS: www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/reviews/showReview.aspx?ID=3179&Type=FBThey don't fit the teeth in the drive sprocket, otherwise it's a nice kit. Both MasterClub and Modelkasten have T-30/40/60 tracks. Judging from the review, there are some steps to remove detail relevant to an upcoming T-40 kit, but otherwise it's a nice looking kit. I'm itching to start mine, but I'm finishing off some shelf queens first. The T-26 tracks are tiny and meant to go together with teeny tiny pins. They are tedious in the extreme, from all accounts. Here is the AMPS review of the T-26: www.amps-armor.org/ampssite/reviews/showReview.aspx?ID=2837&Type=FBAgain, there are aftermarket tracks out there. The review misses some issues with the kit, including an inaccurate the driver's hatch and a poor rendition of the hatch at the back of the turret. Depends how picky you are. Regards Scott Fraser

just to throw a cat amongst the pigeons, how about something horse drawn! ICM have just released 76mm gun complete with horse's uuummmm Miniart have a couple of similar items, one with a field kitchen and another with a ZiS-3. The gun is from after 1941, but Bronco make an F-22 field gun that is quite appropriate. What surprises me most, so far, is that no one has mentioned anything used by the Axis allies --- Finland, Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Italy (not Bulgaria). They were all quite involved in the 1941 campaign and some of their equipment was quite exotic, especially the aircraft. Regards Scott Fraser

ICM have just released 76mm gun complete with horse's uuummmm I have a couple boxes of the Zvezda Cossacks and was thinking about doing something similar to this photo--several charging Cossacks and a BT-7. Problem is, Barbarossa is such a great subject for a GB, if I finish everything I have planned it's going to be a major focus of my building for the year. Not that there's anything wrong with that
