I've always liked the Dauntless and have built a couple of 'em over the years and have wondered what the Trumpeter version of it is like. What's your take on that one?

Will you be documenting the Dauntless build doogs? Interested to see what weathering you go with after reading your article on your blog.

Built the AM kit waaaay back when I first came back to modeling, and while it was good overall, I was certainly frustrated by a few aspects (the cockpit "sandwich" was ridiculous). The Trumpeter kit seems almost like it was designed by a modeler who looked at the AM kit and thought "how can this be improved?". You can certainly see the influence, but it's by no means a copy. I would actually say that the engineering of the cockpit is a lot more builder-friendly. The only real issue I've noticed is the presence of a small gap in the wingroots. But it looks very easily shimmable.

I will - but I'm going to have to hold back the painting stage, as it's going to be for a magazine and the focus is on actually putting paint on plastic. So it'll vanish for a bit and then pop back up when weathering becomes the focus.

Won this monster on ebay just before Xmas, completely unopened and possibly one of the last going around anywhere? It doesn't even show on Trumpeter's website these days. Gonna be epic and a long build with this i think!

This may come as a shock to some of you - brace yourselves! This arrived today: Got one in the local museum, so ref pics won't be a problem. Haven't built a wingy in decades, so expect me to ask lots of questions

Dierk building a wingie! Are you feeling okay? Actually, now that you mention it, maybe I did bang my head recently but seriously, I blame the nearby wingy museum - they've got one, and my better half keeps moaning about me building tanks (how long till you've built all the ones that have ever been...) It also scores very high on my weird-o-meter: very short takeoff, looks weird in a cool sort of way, virtually uncrashable (it has no known stall-speed - even if the engine fails, just pull back on the stick and it'll glide to the ground) been used very successfully in covert actions, and pretty much impossible to intercept from the air as its top-speed is slower than most fighter plane's stall speed...and the kit was 1/3rd cheaper than retail, so I'll feel justified in spending much more than the saving on AM goodies

At least it's green, right Dierk? and it has red stars! Will have to get some light blue for the underside though

Thanks Lucas! The one in the local museum is yellow too - but mine won't be Going wingy is dramatic enough a departure for me - I'd need massive doses of medication to go yellow as well The low-tech cockpit doesn't surprise me at all - my Ural sidecar is a 2005 model and doesn't even have a rev counter, or to give it its proper English name: 'tachometer', which is what the Germans call the speedo - which the Ural does have, it just does without a Drehzahlmesser. Confused? Good, job done then Nice haul by the way.

Nice hauls coming in. I really wish that Aerobonus ground crew figure came in 1/32. Latest acquisition. Also pictured the carpet monster and my really unimpressed looking Springer. Haven't built anything bigger then a Sherman in at least 5 yrs so really looking forward to taking a crack at this kit. Planning on building the Marine version, but my 3yr old is infatuated with the U.S Army shark teeth markings on the box art. Tough call. Jeff

Jeff, there are some 1/32 figures from Aerobonus. This is one for example (originally meant for a Bf 109 if I remember it right):

I looked at their site and it seems like their 1/32 line was mostly pilots. I was really hoping to get a hold of that mechanic on a crate drinking a beer. He looks great.

Got me some stuff at the recent show Roscoe Turner IPMS her in Indianapolis. I am mostly excited about USS Sullivans... got it for only $20 and it will be my next build as soon as I am done with my Panzer II. I grew up in Buffalo where USS Sullivans is docked as a floating museum today at Buffalo Naval Yard.

Damnit, every time I see the cool kits you ALL are coming up with, I think, heck, I have to follow. But then, something unforseenable happens and bye, bye money. At the moment I can be glad to afford a new Blue Ray disc or some books, grrrr!
Frank (no, it is not nessessary to send me food packs! I have a bit money left, gargl!)
