So, my friend Jim Hatch over at LSM hooked me up with HK to do this one for a Model Aircraft feature. Thanks to Neil Yan and the folks at HK this one landed on my doorstep last week: Initial inspection of the kit was very promising. The surface detail is reaching Tamiya level. Detail throughout the rest of the kit is also very good. I really see no reason for anyone looking for a Dornier in 1/32 to wait for the other guys to release their uninspired version. So far I'm very impressed. Anyway, I wanted to run a bit of a WIP here. I won't reveal all because of my magazine commitment, but I will share bits here and there. I started with the wheel and bomb bay because I just really liked the detail here. Here's where it's at: And that's where we are for now. The cockpit has it's base down, so I'll be detail painting it up next.

Great bird! And nice start! Noticed that Zoukei Moura are going to (or maybe already?) release one too. Great stuff! This bird is going to be implemented in War Thunder soon too, can't wait to fly that bird. And can't wait for next update either, keep it coming!
Cheers

Thanks gents. Thanks to some well appreciated feedback I now know that much of the stuff I painted yellow is in fact tuning and not wires. And while I know yellow wiring on German aircraft is a reality, there's no indication the pipework was such.
So, I've made some tweaks. I hope to be uploading some photos soon.

So it turns out all the stuff I painted yellow isn't wiring...well most of it anyway. It's plumbing, and I just didn't think yellow was right for that. Now, I'm fresh out of color pics of Dornier wheel wells, so I went with a black/grey that will still give visual interest but not look out of place. Also, I addressed the tanks which were too dark. Probably not spot on, but much closer to the reference pic provided.

That's looking very awesome Jim. Looking forward seeing this come together. Noted how smooth and clean your re-paint of the plumbing, an area I have always struggled with. Can you share how you paint those fine details? Mask, AB, dry brush, or just slow and steady with a brush? Thanks, Rick

Slow and steady with a brush. I like brush painting with Vallejo thinned with water. Works beautifully. No real trick really. Just patience and a steady hand.

Wrapped up the cockpit (minus the IP which is a later step). HGW worked beautifully as usual; though tedious...also as usual. Also took the opportunity to mock up the internals and fuselage halved. Looks like the fit is going to be trouble free. Next area of focus will be the rear engine.

Looking good Jimmy. Makes you wonder what kind of vibrational forces the pilot had to endure being sandwiched in between the engines like that. Bet they didn't have any fillings!

I can't imagine. Hopefully the engines were smooth running...as much as they could be anyway. I bet it was insanely loud too.

Work has been of the non-sexy nature mostly since getting the fuselage closed. Wings slipped on beautifully. I'm really loving this kit if I'm quite honest. It's renewed by enthusiasm to go to the bench. Holding some back, but I got everything primed up. I was sent some Badger Stynlrez recently to try, and I was skeptical that it could dethrone my trusty Mr. Surfacer but I think it may have. It goes on ugly, but levels off beautifully. Hrrng...I love this airplane from this angle. Some diligent work on the landing gear too. I'm prone to phone it in on gear sometime, so I've been babying my way through these. I'm happy, but as always critiques are welcomed.
