Finally finished adding the remaining bits to the Tiger, like the square mounting points for the side fenders. I used the new AK Interactive primer on this model. Pics coming soon, once the second camo color is applied. Stay tuned.

I like the pre Kursk and kursk Tigers too. Thing is that I have little ref on these tanks and the cmao. I also am limited to what decals I have on hand.

Boss a quick question regarding with the AK primer does the weather affects the paint? for example we have tropical weather here do I need to add retarder or any medium to avoid clogging my AB? I tried the acrylic line and I use water as medium but it clogged my AB and I have to use denatured alcohol in order to flow smoothly.
Cheers!

ER like with any other acrylic, or paints, the weather does affect the paint, especially humidity like where you live. I have this problem in the summer, so that's when I mainly build and save painting for the other months. Could explain why I have so many shelf queens...lol
Thanks for the comments fellas.

Well I got the second color of the camo one her. just as I thought would happen, the AK dark brown I used from the AK german camo set was too thin and spattered no matter what. So I switched to the trusty old Tamiya dark brown. Not quite sure how I like the camo on this. I used a couple of color ref profiles from an old Squadron Signal book (panzercolor) for the camo. Still need to hit the model with some base gleb to tone down the green and brown a bit, then filters to tone it more and also get some yellow back into the scheme. Here is what she looks like. Just in yellow with camo What do you think, repaint or leave it ?

Camo is looking great, but are you sure about three tone camo at battle of the Kursk? I think that all Tigers were painted in two tone camo. How ever you decided, it looks great so far cheers Momcha

How ever you decided, it looks great so far cheers Momcha That's wone of the things that had me stumped for the longest time. Going by the Panzer colors book, they were two toned - Gelb/brown , gelb/green before Kursk. The pics in the books show tigers with three tones. Will have to post the question on ML and see what they say. I can always repaint if need be....before I start weathering that is. Thanks for the comments fellas.

Before you tone done the colors with an over spray you may want to just start the weathering as is. If you tone it down, you run the risk of mudding the camo, trust me I have done this too many times because I hate the stark look at this stage.

Me too John and thanks. Was not 100% on doing that since I usually never do it. Will stick with my usual filter and wash.
Posted on ML regarding the camo and markings. Will wait to hear.

Great work, but a 2 colour camo would be better. I would use a brown camo over the dark yellow.

Tobias, that's what I had planned at first, but then reading the PC III it seems it was Gelb/Green before Kursk. I may just do it for late summer after Kursk. I don't have the time to spare for confirmation and don't want to shelf this again, so I will leave it as is I guess. Gonna apply some numbers and start the filters soon.

i think it would look better with a darker base coat. a filter should fix that but it looks good to me rob

Spud, thanks mate. It will darken once the filters and washes are on. I am going to go apply some gloss, and then decs. Should start the weathering tonight/tomorrow. Oh yeah, need to slap some paint on the wheels while the decs dry.

I like it this way Rob, the camo looks great to me. I like the colors and the way you airbrushed them onto the model.

I think it looks great Rob!! No need to repaint it if your not gonna class it as a Kursk tiger.

My observation of Kursk paint jobs shows that the three color was used though maybe not as common as other colors.

my two cents exactly...it was more common to have DY Tigers with Green camo, but the three tone was there as well. Besides that it's very hard on B/W shots to see the tones of the green and brown apart. I'd leave it, looks great!
Cheers

Thanks for all the moral support guys. I am sticking with this camo and have the decs on and the first filters and pin wash on. Now for chipping, pin washes and some effects with oils. Will post pics later today.
