With the Spitfire safely across the finish line, I thought it was time to build something from the other side of the battle line. I'm not sure just how far I'll get into detailing. I'll just have to see how the kit detail plays out.....aw heck! Who am I kidding? I've got a reference book for petes sake! There will be more detail added.

Good afternoon Sturmbird. I ordered the book from Squadron during one of their sales. It's published by Valiant Wings Publishing ISBN 978-0-9575866-9-7 I hope this helps.

A couple of parts into the build and I'm modifying/scratch building replacements/improvements. So far, not a bad kit. The quadrant panel was improved using a razor saw, styrene/brass stock, pliers.... It started off life known as part C39 as depicted in the instructions.... Here are the parts mounted....including the new scratch built trim wheel. It was punched out of some styrene and a Grandt Line bolt supplied the "mounting hardware"

Good start! Scratched parts are a great improvement on the kit-supplied stuff.

Good evening one and all. I was settling in for a wonderful session at the bench this evening. There was a bit of progress but, then I realized the missing detail in the CP. There are no saddle-drum magazines or the racks for them. Engineering oversight? Whatever the reason, it stall the build for a bit. I contemplated building the 20+ magazines....only briefly. I found some resin ones online. I'll build the racks for them. Until they arrive, there are other things to work on with the beastie.

Good evening Panzerjager2. At least the snot is no longer flying about. Thank you for the support. Hey, I heard that a Z variant was found on the coast of England about 3 or so years ago. That would make it the sole surviving example of the Do 17 A bit of detailing was accomplished today on the port side of the fuselage. Structural members, controls, map case, wiring ..... Here we have the pilots station dry fitted to check clearances with the added detail.

Good evening everyone. Andy, Thank you for tending to that.....I was living on NyQuil. Andrew, Thank you very much my good man. Jpc1968, Thank you kindly for the compliment. The kit itself is a nice one. There are however, some interesting omissions. First up, in the photo below you'll see two attachment points between the two seats. Well, it turns out that this is where the radio/gunner sits. I'd been pondering it. The instructions show these two spots blank in several steps. I found a reference drawing that showed the seating arrangement for the four crew. I knew I had the material for the webbing...flattened lead wire. I entertained the idea of using tape but, I knew I'd be handling this assembly a fair bit so, I built it to handle it. I used phosphor bronze wire as this soldered up quite nicely. It's roughly 10mm on a side. I haven't decided if I'll be displaying it down or folded out of the way. The other omission of ICM is that there are no spare saddle-drum magazines. I sourced out a couple of packs of CMK resin magazines. At first I thought 32 might be enough. After finding more pics of where these things were squirreled away, I'm not so sure. So out came the 0.080" stock....strip and round. I made 31 more magazines. I'll use the resin ones where they'll be the most visible. The styrene ones will be used elsewhere.

As for the recovery, I think there's a youtube video of it. I hope they don't F- it up. A 1/1 scale would be very berry cool

Good morning everyone. Leon. Thank you buddy for the compliment. Rick, Thank you kindly for the compliment. So far the fit has been good...it's just got some very interesting omissions. The instructions still show the empty slots for the radio/gunner seat even after the fuselage is buttoned up. Dierk, I love it. Coming soon to a dictionary near you. Panzerjager, Thank you very much. There is a video of it. Currently they're working on it for preservation. Andy, You can sit in the chair...only if your arse end is no bigger than a dime.

Lots of magazines "loaded up" today. The upper ones will be visible on the port side of the CP. The straps are made from foil from wine bottles. Starboard side of the CP The radio/gunners seat completed. The back rest was built from 0.015" phosphor bronze wire and wine bottle foil. Magazines are squirreled away every where. The fuselage dry fitted. There will be a stack of five magazines behind the pilots seat.
