I was very happy to see this kit recently as this was my Grandfather's one and only new car purchase in his life. I can still remember him bringing it by the first time and just how proud he was. It was a fully loaded model and he took such care of it that when he passed 12 years later it was still in pristine, showroom condition. This of course is the curbside kit from the old promo. The molds are very nice and most of the grand total of 24 parts (including 10 parts for wheels and axles) are extremely crisp. The steering wheel sits at a weird angle and the door panel detail is a little blurred but as this was intended to be a quick weekend slap together and throw some paint and BMF on it weekend project as a break from my big builds I left them alone. The paint is Tamiya Italian Red lacquer and is bang on the sort of off red of the 64s. Experimenting with backgrounds in the light box so please forgive the weird white sections. I will try to get some outside shots when there is no snow on the ground and we get daylight again. The only picture I could find of his car. And since it is a promo and they actually left the base plate (not calling it a chassis) I decided to run with it. Pretty cool actually.

That is a very cool 64 ford tcoat. My ex-mother in-law also had a 64 Galaxie XL. It was baby blue with a 4 speed and a very cool interior. She wouldn't let her husband drive it...at all! LOL He had to drive his own 59 ford 2dr Galaxie 500. Good memories for sure.

Man, I can't believe I haven't commented on this one yet. What a cool build up Tony for a couple reasons. First off, this is very cleanly represented with the beautiful paint work and then again with the interior detailing. Secondly, because of its tribute to your Grandfather which gives it a special place in mind as well as in display. Lastly, because of all the vehicle features pointed out on the chassis of the car which would make for lots of conversation once the car is flipped over to show all of that. Awesome build and a fine tribute Tony.

Most of these old promo molds had such stuff scrubbed off when they were turned into kits so it is fun that this one survived. It was the third build in the Cars I Used To Own OR Influenced My Life series. As I have 4 more in the works and another handful to find kits for I will soon need to find a bigger display case. The green Chevy is not part of my series but just a practice kit for shiny paint (which I still suck at)

If any of my cars gets too glossy, i give them away. A build either tells me right away that it looks real, or that it looks diecast -yours looks pretty darn real...but dont listen to me if you ever wanna win contests these days, or be in the "In-crowd".

A build either tells me right away that it looks real, or that it looks diecast -yours looks pretty darn real...but dont listen to me if you ever wanna win contests these days, or be in the "In-crowd". Thanks. Yes I learned at my very first show that I will never, ever be in the running for a car model. My '64 Econoline is a great example! modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/thread/13987/64-econolineI overheard one of the judges when they looked at it. They glanced at it for about one second and he said "to bad the paint is so bad" and moved on. If they had taken even a brief look at the description card they would have seen just how hard worked at getting that worn finish! Here is how far I went to get it right. The roof paint of the real thing was badly cracked. The only thing I could ever figure was that when the enamel was sprayed on it was was not prepped well and then taken out into the hot sun and the roof expanded cracking the paint but not causing it to flake. I had no idea how to replicate that. Then I figured if that was what happened to the real thing why not try on the model. I already had the high gloss lacquer on it so put the body in the freezer for an hour and then sprayed Tamiya semi gloss black over it. When it was almost dry I hit it briefly with a blow dryer and BINGO just like the real thing! The sides received some scuffing and other paint damage to make it look like the daily driver it was. Sooooo... in summary... IPMS judges do not seem to want to see real paint jobs just really well done shiny ones.

wait 1 min, where's all the snow at. The org photo had snow. You need to add that. Go ack and add it and retake all the photos again.
