Andrew, I really like the tow cables, I think they came out perfect.
The mesh was a solid upgrade.
Very nice build you have going here.

These things look pretty sweet for 1/72. (And no, not enough so to make me a convert! LOL) You've done an excellent job of detailing them up. I look forward to the paint schemes and seeing how one accomplishes them in this scale.

Good evening all So sincerest apologies for not being around properly but getting any real time at the bench or on here is proving very difficult. The good news though is that at last the primer has flown. I was using Vallejo's grey (aka off-white) primer. It was taking so many coats to cover the dark yellow plastic that I ended up adding some black. As it turned out, it was a bit too much and so was much darker than I wanted but that might help with the top coat, in terms of obtaining a bit of depth in places. ACW as usual! Andrew ------------------------------------------- Looking ok I think....And as my table is in the kitchen, I need to keep the dust off whilst it dries.....you can imagine my wife's reaction! And my humble table in AB mode!!My collapsible booth doesn't come with lights and so I used to use a couple of small lamps to illuminate it but as you can see my new-ish hobby lamp works brilliantly. The adjustable brightness combined with the slightly diffusing effect of the plastic takes the slightly harsh edge off the light nicely (at least in real life).

Heartening to see you making progress on your Jagdpanthers Andrew. The primer looks good and I am quite sure that you will make the resulting color work in your favor. I take that your wife is not fully aware that you are using the kitchen containers for other meaningful uses. You have a right nice paint booth set up that seems to work for you.

It is in the kitchen after all!! Dunkelgelb flowed last night but I took it easy I want to dry to achieve the slightly mottled effect and I wanted to check it under natural light. Another light coat will follow in due course! Thanks again.

Hi all Just a short update to prove that Dunkelgelb has flowed from the AB, albeit in a rushed shot. I think I have managed to get some subtle tonal variation but will have to wait for the paint to dry properly first. The lighting/rushed shot makes it look a bit darker than it actually is in really life. Anyway got to go, nearly bed time this side of the 'pond', not to mention the football** season has started this weekend and Junior wants to watch today's highlights live as a treat. Andrew **That is the proper round-balled version and not one with that funny shaped ball. And never will you hear me call it 'soccer'***. I should just say that I do like the American version of football and actually stay up to watch the Superbowl live each year (and yes I do take the next day off work!!) *** Turns out it was actually us Brits who first coined the term 'soccer', as an abbreviation for its full name, As soci ation Football - at least that's what the internet says.

These are coming along nicely, what brands version of Dunklegelb are you using?
The way you do the running gear really intrigues me. Is the running gear in these kits meant to be assembled as a monolithic piece like your pictures show or is this your way of handling them?

Love what the dark primer does to the Dunkelgelb, looks great Thanks Anthony. I'm quite please with with how it's turned out so far. Let's hope I don't mess the green up! Thanks Kyle! These are coming along nicely, what brands version of Dunklegelb are you using? The way you do the running gear really intrigues me. Is the running gear in these kits meant to be assembled as a monolithic piece like your pictures show or is this your way of handling them? Morning Brian and thanks! As for the paint, It's Vallejo's Model Air 71.025. As I work in the kitchen, smelly lacquer based paints are out and when I got back in to the hobby, Model Air seemed to be the best out there of the water based paints. That said, I have recently bought some of the new-ish AK 3rd Gen, which people I trust on this side of the pond like a lot. In terms of the running gear, my approach is forced upon me by the fact that they are single pieces. At the budget/wargaming end of the market, it's quite a common approach - see close up below. You have to remember that the kit - 2 models in a box - cost less than £16 delivered, so I have to accept the compromises. The flip side is that from a normal viewing distance, they look ok. I'm going to use a two-tone yellow and green scheme. Initially, I found a picture on Tanks Encyclopaedia where the unit supposedly used this scheme in Normandy. I then found a photo supposedly of the same unit also in Normandy (albeit 1st Company, mine will be marked up as the 2nd). The photo shows one JP with alternating colour wheels, which is what I will be doing - hence the partially painted running gear you can see. Thanks again all! Andrew

Like I said to Brian (chromdome), I can't say anything to anyone about not being able to get to the bench as it's been "a minute" for me. Progress is coming along nicely on this one and yeah......I can imagine your wifes reaction because mine would be the same. You did WHAT??!! lol
Looking good buddy.

Some purchases were because somebody else built a kit that I though looked good and bought one instead of being interested in a particular subject to start with. lol

Good evening all So I was faced with a dilemma this evening..... .....Junior was playing online with his school buddies.....and my wife was out for the evening.....what is a man to do?....it's like the modelling Gods were saying I HAD to spend time at the bench!!!! I briefly toyed with doing the Yak-3 as it has reached the PE stage but I wanted to save that until club night on Tuesday. So I decided to return to the Jagdpanthers. These had been put on hold whilst I got the Raiden over the line...plus I putting off doing the camo. As you we all know German AFV camo is a dark and mysterious art, with so many documented exceptions to the numerous rules that I'm sometimes left wondering if there were more exceptions than ones that actually followed the rules! However, as I explained previously, I have gone for a two tone Dunkelgelb/Olivegrun scheme. But why? Well....the Tanks Encyclopedia website has four drawings of vehicles from schwere Panzerjäger Abteilung 654 in Normandy (my chosen unit and timeframe)....with four different camo schemes. Only one though has the two piece barrel and this has a two tone yellow/green scheme. tanks-encyclopedia.com/ww2/nazi_germany/jagdpanther.php
And.....the World War Photos website has several shots of JPs purporting to be from sPzAbt 654. One has what is almost certainly a two scheme of unknown colours. Whilst several other JPs are in shot, it is impossible to tell what camo scheme they have due to the angle/focus of the shot but what is noticeable is that the one that is fully side on has the road wheels in alternating colours, when none of the others appear to. www.worldwarphotos.info/gallery/germany/tanks-2-3/jagdpanther/jagdpanthers-654abt/
So in short, my two are a homage to the one I found on the World War Photos website. The Olivgrun is Vallejo's Model Air 71.092 Medium Olive RAL 6003. I was very worried about trying to do the blotches at this scale but I think I have pulled it off. One of them has slightly darker green blotches than the other. That was unintentional but gives a bit of variation. ACW as usual Andrew ---------------------------------------------------------- My inspiration.....www.worldwarphotos.info/gallery/germany/tanks-2-3/jagdpanther/jagdpanthers-654abt/
My two homages....
