Yeesh!!! I feel your pain on the rust wash Boyd. I’ve had something like that happen with clear coating a car body only to have it react poorly with the color coat. Nuthin to do from there except chuck the entire body in paint stripper and start over again. Your recovery efforts turned out great man.
P.S. “Uncle Night Shift” …:. Too funny

Superb save Boyd. Good to see you making solid progress. Your approach to the wheels and tracks appears to be working out quite well.

That's a pretty great job you've done painting the wheels and tracks assembled. I'm interested to see if you can tell in person vs pics. Or if you can tell at all by the time it's weathered!
Airbrush wash I liiiiiike.

So far so good!
Also wondering how one stalks and then acquires said "Magic Unicorn Tears"... I may need some.

So far so good! Also wondering how one stalks and then acquires said "Magic Unicorn Tears"... I may need some. It's a very treacherous operation... you have to sneak up on them when they are unawares, slip a rope around their horn to keep them still, then sing them sad rock ballads to produce the all important tears. Not for the faint of heart, I'll tell you that.

Evening all I wanted to throw out another update. This one is kind of a "two steps forward, one back" update, as you shall see. So, to begin with, I got her all built and ready for camo paint: I decided I would start with the brown, using my Badger Krome Renegade and/or my Extreme Patriot.... and chaos ensued... I could not, for the life of me, get either brush to work. For the Extreme Patriot, I think it was inexperience, for the Krome - as it turned out - a bend needle seemed to cause (at least some) of my problems. The result was, I spent more time fighting my airbrush than getting a good camo pattern. Add to that there was spatter all over, and I was not particularly happy: Then I went away for a work trip and came home with a fresh perspective. I went over the brown with tan - not completely covering it, but at least enough that it looked more like pre-shading: Then I went back at it with the brown (Tamiya XF.... 89? 90? Their new German Brown), lightened with a couple drops of buff/deck tan. I thinned it down better and, overall, felt like I had better control, so was much happier with the outcome: I'll apply the green, hopefully, tomorrow. And, as an added bonus, while I was painting one kitty, I decided to resurrect another and get her on the road to completion:

Man that really sucks about the needle being bent. I think I had that problem with my Badger Renegade AB as well. Nothing but splatters and everything I checked was ok and it was a new AB at the time so I sent it in and Badger replaced the bent needle. Worked like a charm after that.
She's looking good so far Boyd as is the side project.

Despite the airbrush woes you pulled off a sweet recovery. The camo looks nicely done. Really good to see that you are making solid progress. The Tiger looks awesome as well.

Wait, where did that Tiger come from???
You're using the "regular" acrylics still (versus lacquer). What are you thinning them with/how much?

Hey everyone, I'm still plugging away at this. I finished up the decals a week or so ago and am starting on weathering. I got a couple small plaques that I will use for a base, so I am giving some thought to the groundwork before I get too far along in the weathering.

I still have a difficult time believing that these are all in 1/48 scale. The paint work is just magnificent on these Boyd. Good to see some progress here again buddy!!

Couldn’t agree more with the others. This is incredible. And I’m 1/48 scale. Unbelievable. Approaching the finish line quickly now.

Thanks for all the positive support guys. It really means a lot. This is the part I like best about old-school forums. Nothing better to motivate you to get down to the bench and knock out some builds. We're back, baby!
