Alright, to echo Dupes, here's to a return to MSC Group Builds! I chose the Panter D from Tamiya and got a pretty good jump on it today. I worked on the running gear and the upper hull a bit. I'm going to attempt to do something I have never done before - to build the tracks and the road wheels as one "unit" that can be removed from the tank and then painted on it's own. We shall see how that works. Nothing really significant to report on tonight's progress except to say... I made some progress tonight!

You're going to glue it all together in one big chunk, and paint afterwards? Ballsy! 😬

Time will tell. 🤣 I've seen it done by Martin Kovac (Night Shift) and he pulls it off beautifully. But it does necessitate painting a lot by hand, so it isn't without it's challenges. Off to a great start!

Looking forward to you building a 1/48 Panther also. Absolutely intrigued to see how your track/running gear method turns out. I saw this technique used on a Tamiya 1/48 Firefly when I was looking at build reviews. Likely a bit easier to do using 3 bogies as opposed to a whole mess of wheels on the Panther. I have faith that you will nail this.

Any update on the track assembly? You've got me glued to the set. I did start on the tracks last night. Tacked the roadwheels on with a little CA, then started with the track run. Have not glued the tracks to the wheels yet, but I feel like I better put up or shut up 😎🤣 Aaaaand... trying to post a pic from my phone is proving difficult, so photographic evidence will have to wait until I'm at my computer....

The glue all the running gear together techinqe is an effective one and works well; I've used it a few times when I was bound and determined to use kit supplied link and length. Painting does get a bit tedious but it's not as hard as you might imagine. If the worst happens, remember mud and dirt can be your friend

Hey all, Just a quick update: First, I am still plugging away at the running gear, but have nothing significant to report. Second, I spent a bit of time tonight doing the tool racks. They I looked at the case for the cleaning gear and... was less the satisfied. So, as you can see in the pic, I've cut a length of brass rod which I may use to replace the longer section of the tube, so I can ding and dent it up a bit.

That's funny - I was just cutting out that cleaning gear tube last night. It seemed "less than optimally detailed". But if I want to go OOB...
Good luck with your one-piece running gear!

Good to see your still at it and moving along. The brass tube will definitely be an improvement and appear more realistic.

Looking good! That cleaning tube will look much better than the kit part after you detail it up.

Yeah, I was torn for that very reason. But, I feel like it's a pretty simple tweak to make a much better presentation so... I guess I'm throwing the OOB category out the window!
