Hey folks...I started this thing about 6-7 months ago. Had to put it down because of med. reasons. Didn't get back to until3 weeks ago. Joe said it was ok to put this in the GB. I just finished all the fab work about 2-3 weeks ago. I started with the AMT 34 Ford 5 window body. I also used the chassis and modified it.
The "B" pillar was removed and the windows hogged out. Hands-down, the coolest album cover EVER! Marty Robbins '60's era "Devil Woman" modified. The "preacher" Hamilton-built '34 coupe was originally powered by a 292 Y-block Ford, as seen here. Eventually, the ever-potent 327 chevy would provide the motivation. The 'Devil Woman" was a regular at Nashville's Fairgrounds Raceway and was the first in a long line of purple and yellow Marty Robbins race cars. I wanted to do the Album cover car as close as posible. I took a "Y" block engine from the 56 tbird kit and made it work with the 34 chassis. With only 3 pics of this car to work from, I had to use what knowledge I shared with my racing uncle.
The 1/1 car.....
Annnnd This is where I'm at today. Got all the major paint finished. Just waiting for it to gas out. I'll let it sit for a week and then start assembly. Here's a few pics of the progress paint.
Thanks for looking in folks. All comments are welcome...

Thanks Joe! I've played both of those songs at least...5000 times in my career! your response is AWESOME my friend.
I should add that I played with JD Houg (which was the lead guitar player with Marty for 5 yrs) in the Seattle area in the 80's. He never did any recording with Marty. But...did work with him for at least 5 yr.

It’s Big Iron for me. But any Marty Robbins is good. This is some great work Gary, as usual

Right on Kyle....That's a GREAT song too. It was based on the stories that Martys' Grandfather told him. According to Marty... His Grandfather was a Texas Ranger at one time and shared some of his escapades with him. Man...that would be a trip to hear...wouldn't it?

Shoot Gary, I didn’t know the origins story behind that song, but I’ve always loved Marry Robbins. That is too cool! Would’ve been awesome to be able to hear some stories from an actual Ranger or Marshall from those times

It sure must've made a BIG impression on Marty. A lot of his songs were inspired by stories from Grandpa! I also would've loved to be there listening to him tell stories, sitting around a camp fire roasting marsh mellows and hearing the coyotes yipping in the background. MAN...what a vision..eh? LOL

Looks great! I love the color, brings me back to the days of racing dirt short tracks. That color was in the scheme of our car

That color does indeed look spot on Gary! This is going to look really good when all of the details are put into place. Are you going to leave it clean or dirty it up a bit?

Thanks for looking in and commenting Handi and Joe.
It's going to stay clean as the car on the Album cover, Joe. They went over that whole car and made it look super good for the Album Photo shoot. That's the way I am building it. I got some interior work done yesterday. Need to get the WWII racing harness(ARMY AIRFORCE surplus)built and installed. Along with the battery cables. It's starting to look like a racecar now. I'll post pics when it's up on all fours and the interior is finished.

Thanks for stopping in and commenting, whiterook.
The purple and yellow is from MCW. The chassis semi-flat black is Scale Finishes Paint.

Thanks for stopping in and commenting, whiterook. The purple and yellow is from MCW. The chassis semi-flat black is Scale Finishes Paint. I tried looking those up, as I’ve never used or heard of them (he states, embarrassed), and sounds like an acrylic lacquer? This show my ignorance with this side of the modeling hobby, as I’m a military modeler. Once of the reasons I like this forum is, there’s so many automotive modelers and I am super curious tp find out how you all handle the glossy sheen on most of the car subjects.

Once of the reasons I like this forum is, there’s so many automotive modelers and I am super curious tp find out how you all handle the glossy sheen on most of the car subjects. On this particular build...I don't have too worry about too much gloss. Even though they really cleaned the body up for the photo shoot. The Lacquer at MCW is a gloss finish unless otherwise noted. I shot Alclad grey primer on first and let gas out for a day, shooting 18-20 psi out of the Paasche H #3 airbrush. I then shot the purple @ 20 psi on the body. First coat pretty wet. 2nd coat, a little wetter. The 3rd and final coat...pretty darn wet...but not as wet to make it run. I let it gas out at least three to four days. I haven't rubbed it out or polished it out at all. The gloss it has on it is straight from the bottle. I hope this helps you a little, Whiterook.

Thank you, Kyle. It's all done except the Decals. I need to let it all settle in for a Day and then put the Decals on it. It needs a little touch-up on the bottom too. I'll do that tomorrow. Then I'll slap the "DEVIL WOMAN" on that bad girl!! LOL
