I know! I know! I know! I was not supposed to start another build but this is part of my local club group build and I couldn't resist to sign up. The club had a bunch of Tamiya armor & wingy kits in 1/48 only and they had the members draw the numbers to find the matching kit to be built for the group build. Unfortunately it is only 4 months long and I have to finish it in time for the October meeting or I will have to pay $25 for the kit. The kit I drew... At first I was excited that I got the Humvee kit but realize it's a cargo type. YUK! So I bought this upgrade set from Black Dog to convert it into a war machine... uparmored Humvee used by Israel Defense Force! I started building it last week and I found the kit by Tamiya to be so easy & fun to build! But the upgrade set by BlackDog is the opposite... So many air bubbles, excessive resin seams and poor instructions by Black Dog how to assemble the resin pieces... Resin cocaine powered just from four seats alone... ridiculous! Dry fitting the roof... it took a lot of effort to make it work. I had to add white styrene stripes to reinforce the fragile resin parts and gaps in the corners and behind the windshield. Hopefully none of rivet counting judges spot them...
Hope I can finish building over the weekend with rest of resin parts so I can have it primed and painted soon! I am always a big fan of IDF so I am looking forward to finish this. Thanks for looking!

That actually looks like a pretty dang good kit Andy.....especially for it being 1/48 scale. The detail OOB looks good enough but then you add that conversion kit and it gets taken to a whole new level. Very cool!!!

Great subject Andy! Those Tamiya 1/48 kits are so fun OOB. They practically build themselves... I really like what you're doing with this.

Sketchy resin sets make conversions interesting indeed. Looks like your winning the battle so far

Thanks guys!!! Have been working to add details to the roof which is probably the most complicated part of the conversion set due to lack of instructions and bad images. I will post pics of the instructions next time I am at my bench which is located in the dungeon aka the basement. Brian, probably not... it was my first and probably the last time. I am HUGE fan of stowage sets from Blackdog so I have many sets and I have used them in the past. Also I am usually pleased with their resin figures too but the conversion set is not even close. Couple of pieces are missing especially the rear bumper so I had to use US's version and made some changes. And it doesn't come with clear parts for the windshields so I will have to make them from scratch. That's why I am not impressed but I won't give up that easily...

OK guys, just to give you an idea what instruction sheet looks like from Black Dog. I had to go to their website to look at better images but there are still no step-by-step instructions.
Numbers for parts and PE parts cramped on the image below...
The PE sheet is NOT even numbered so it has been a challenge trying to figure them out...
FUN FUN FUN... NOT!

Thanks guys! I think the building part is pretty done so it is ready to be primed next. There were gaps between in the rear parts that was bothering me so I added very thin styrene stripes to cover them. Much better now... me and my OCD! Added all accessories and details such as handlebars, etc. I had to insert metal rods so the spotlights can be attached securely. Another FUBAR by Black Dog... the doors were missing handles. I looked online and found a good reference... very simple handle bars.
Thanks for looking! Off to help my dad in law with the move today.

Looking really good Andy. Those additional details are going to pay off. Based on your experience with this conversion kit, I will definitely avoid Blackdog's conversions.

That’s looking better and better Andy. You’re sure improving the Black Dog conversion kit with your additions. It’s amazing for how much their stuff costs that they don’t get it correct on their part. Door handles? Seriously? Kind of a needed detail on this subject.

Brian, Tony, and Carlos- Thanks for commenting! I wish Black Dog did a better job especially that I paid more than $40 for the set. I couldn't believe that it didn't come with clear parts for the windshields and doors. Just more work for me but I kinda had fun this time. Guys, things are starting to pick up at work especially more road trips so I am trying to finish this before the October deadline. Thanks to Joe for bringing up Evergreen clear styrene #9007 because I totally forgot that I already have them. That happens when you have too much of stuff... I was able to create windshields after priming and painting the Humvee. I added more details such as seat belts & radio/computer to the interior using Quinta Set 3D printed decals... they are really great! I wish I took better pictures of the interior so I will do that next time I work on it.
Then I did minor chipping all over to make it look little weary. Pin washing and weathering is next... thanks for looking!
