Ducati 750 Imola

Considering my screen name, it's only fitting that I have a motorcycle WIP going.


Due to the popularity of the Daytona 200, it was decided to create a european version. The races were run at Imola from 1972 to 1985. The inaugural race was won by Paul Smart on a Ducati 750. This bike was considered the first V-twin engine by Ducati to utilize desmodromic valves.





First order of business is to inventory the contents.








Then I got the frame together and tried some of the other pieces on it.





One of the things that had me stumped on MFH bike kits was assembling the chain. The pins on the rollers need to be peened down to hold the side plates. Then I had an inspiration to use a nail set to peen them. The first run of the chain took a while, but once I got the hang of it, it went faster.

Look out!! He's goin' for the big scale bike!! That chain looks every bit as intense as putting a set of 1/35 scale armor tracks together Paul. Looking forward to seeing this one being built up.

Thanks guys.   The other part of the build that was pushing my limits (or so I thought) were the wheels.  But they went together very easy.

I got some color on the frame. Tamiya TS-54 Light Blue Metallic. I figure it's a close match to the original.

All the white metal pieces to make up the cylinders.  And the engine is 90% done.

The wheels are metal also.  The rim and the hubs are white metal.  The spokes are wires, and the nipples are aluminum turnings.

Fairing , tank, and seat fairing are resin.

I got the body panels painted today

That's a pretty well detailed engine out of the box Paul. What kind of goodies do you have planned for it? Progress continually looks great buddy and I'm really enjoying this thread.

Thanks Joe.  I don't have any extras planned.  Just an OOB build since it's a replica of a real motorcycle

I got the frame ready for the engine, then installed it.

I am loving this already! The terminal posts on the battery are over the top real looking and the engine fitted into the frame is really making this pull together great

The work on the battery, chassis electrical and frame are coming along well Paul. I did forget to make mention of the wheels earlier which are a modern art masterpiece in themselves. Very convincing work so far bud.

Alright....another MotoGP fan.  I miss being able to watch the Moto2 and Moto3 races.  Some of those get really wild.

I'm retired.  So finding bench time isn't hard.  Plus I had almost all of the holes already drilled and most parts painted.

Man Paul, this is looking great. I wish I could find a kit in this scale of the XS650, it was my favorite bike that I owned.
Of coarse me and my brother always drooled over the Ducati's as well so this is great.
