Unfortunately, not much in the way of any photos. My fathers assignment as a flight instructor was in multi engine. As such, he mainly flew the PBY Catalina which he loved. That is what I wish I had some photos of so I could accurately build a PBY from Pensacola NAS during the war. But, as a flight instructor my father got to fly pretty much every aircraft in the Navy arsenal at some time. Here is a photo of some NAS Pensacola PBYs Wow! Thanks for finding that Stik. Do you have a link or even a date on that photo?

I would have to go back and look for the link where I found it. I found by doing an image search for “PBY NAS Pensacola”
Judging by the aircraft paint schemes that photo had to be taken at least in late 1944 after the overall gloss sea blue was introduced.

Agree on the approximate date judging from the paint scheme. It was some years ago when I was actively searching so it does not surprise me to find some available photos now. I do like the tri color Atlantic schemes.

Corsair is ready for paint. Has been ready since last Sunday, I've had zero time to work on it this week. Hopefully that changes tomorrow.

Looking real good! Is it for our club group build? Yes it is. I hope I can get this done before the next meeting. Jeez.....I wished we had a club like that around here. We used to right after we first moved here. I was in heaven!! Had a real hobby shop chocked full of models and had a club and everything. Within 3 months of us being here the shop closed down and the club disappeared. Consider yourselves blessed to have a gathering of scale modelers fellas. On the other hand and on an upbeat note.....we've got this place and I look forward to coming here every day to talk modeling so thank you ALL for being here.

Was covid the cause of the fall? It's a great group of guys! The only bad thing is unfortunately for me I have to drive over a hour to get there

Hmmm. I really do need to make it to one of those meetings. I believe the next one is taking place when we’re taking my dad out for dinner. He’s in assisted living so occasionally we break him out. One day soon I’m going to go though.

Like everything else independently owned in Corpus....it just shut down.

Corpus Christi has a population of 300k+, and you can't get enough people together for a modeling club??

I’ve met a few modelers at HL but haven’t found any who I’d feel comfortable getting together with. I spend my energy here on this forum and I get a lot enjoyment out of that.

Now that I’m thinking about this a little more, this is the perfect place for me. A club would only take me away from here.

I put together an IPMS chapter going on...13 years ago, now. Got a pretty decent group of people together! I'm the ring leader, which takes a bit of time, but we have regular build nights in my basement (some of the forum members here have attended!).

Had time to get some paint down tonight. One thing I want to show is the two layer chipping and got the first layer down tonight. Once this had dried I'll hit it with a lacquer clear add some more hairspray and then add the camo colors. Thanks for looking in! SKOL!

Your pre shading and chipping will add a great depth to the paint job you put on. Looks great so far!

Ah, thats very cool. I know nothing about preshading or chipping but I always enjoy seeing it in process and finished. I mean, I get the idea, just never have given it a whirl.

Got the paint on. I had some paint peel on the bottom. I had masked it off with yellow frog tape detacked on the back of my hand like I always do but still got some paint lift. Luckily it was a easy touch up. After all three colors was put down I with some lighter and darker shades mixed for the sea blue, I stared chipping the wings. I didn't like the first attempt so I scrubbed it all off, repainted and tried it again and while not 100% satisfied I'm calling it good enough so I can get this done for the GB. Thanks for checking it out! SKOL!

Man that looks good Clint. Prep work is where it's all at alright and you're sure showing us all how that's done. I backed up a few years back and reinvented the wheel in my aircraft modeling by concentrating more on prep work and then paying more attention to the weathering aspects of aircraft building while being careful not to overdo it at the same time. Lookin' good so far bud.

I've found the biggest boost to my prep work was ditching them foam backed sanding sticks and using only sanding sponges from 600-3000 grit Ive got all the way up to 12,000 if I really need it. Like for a bare metal finish. For when I need something rigid for sanding I started using a glass file like what Gundam builders use

I like the 600-3000 grit sponge idea but I've never heard of these glass files that you speak of. Could you expand on those?
