Eduard 1/48 Messerschmitt K-4

I had been making progress on my P-38 but then Eduard finally did a K-4. I've been waiting for this kit for years and immediately ordered three from Squadron, who actually had it in stock and cheaper than Sprue Bros. I really like the Eduard 109s and this one is no exception. Using kit decals but a JaPo book for reference. Eduard has it as blue7 but they do include a red option as well which is what JaPo shows in part 4 of their Luftwaffe Over Czech Territory series. It's thrown in at the end of this book which really is about the Me262 and the Ar234. It's the one one that got away from their awesome books on the K-4. Hard to come by these days but worth finding for any 109 fan. Basic camo done and a few decals. Love Eduard's new decals that you can peal off the film.

Looking good! Did Eduard provide a decal for the center part of the swastika? I understand the European laws and reasons for them in regards to the marking. But for areas that have no such laws...

Thanks, Joe. I do like the new Eduard decals. I have had a couple of instances of a little lifting of the decal when removing the carrier film but generally good results. I normally use the toothpick or tweezer method to peel it off but tried a new method I was reading about on these. Let them set for 24 hours, apply mineral spirits to the decal and let sit for 1 minute and then rub it. It was supposed to soften and roll into a ball. Didn’t happen for me but I want to try it again. Plenty more decals to go. Bottom line, having no carrier film to hide is fantastic.

Thanks! They have 6 schemes, I think, on the decal sheet. I hope they do more as there are some other K-4 schemes I really like. EagleCals does them but I like these new Eduard decals. Also they give you two sets national markings so you can buy an Overtree kit and build another one from this decal sheet, which is nice of them. For those that aren’t familiar, Eduard’s overtree kits contain just the plastic. No instructions, decals, etc., but are a lot cheaper.

Ya see......I never knew all of that. To me, he was always Tuco. Maybe I need to go back and watch that again and I wouldn't have a problem doing that because this is one of my favorite movies as well as movie characters.

I’ve seen the over trees for sale but never having any extra decals or anything I’ve never gotten any. I think it’s a great thing that Eduard offers them.

Thanks much for nice comments everyone! I thought the horizontal stabs were interchangeable but they're not, and of course I painted them opposite of what they should be. Quick respray and good to go. Cleaned up the wing leading edges a bit and finished the swastikas. Also toned down the overpainted markings in front of the red sevens. I like it much better. Not much to report but moving along.

I've done exactly that with the stabilizers on my Me-262 a couple of years back. I'm glad it aint just me. lol

Moving along somewhat. Finished the decals. So nice to have stencils without carrier film. Started on weathering with a panel wash. Exhaust stains from my really old bottle of Mr. Hobby Soot. Heavy staining underneath which is just MRP olive drab at this point. I like to put some Mig Fresh Engine Oil on at the end. It stays sticky and is easy to get fingerprints on so something to add last when done handling it. some chipping here and there with a Prisma silver pencil and Vallejo Oily Steel with a sponge. Anyhow, that's where I'm at.

Very good progress on this one Jay (tucohoward ). I really enjoy using those Prismacolor silver pencils. Really adds a good effect to aircraft builds in regard to chipping. Dude this is turning out to be one heckuva build bud.
