The Z-M showed up today!!! I am officially in! Man what a cool experience this is going to be! Now that I have my hands on the real deal, the instruction manual is like nothing I have ever seen before. Haven't even started fondling the sprues yet, but that'll come later tonight. January can't get here fast enough.

It was a great platform to go crazy with detail along with the already amazing detail of the kit. It won't be the last build I do from them.

Was that a real-world example of a mothballed Ho-229 that you modeled it after? Hopefully getting a Z-M A-1J for Christmas too, so this is gonna be a good year for modeling.

The length and width are a little larger than the average 1/32 Tamiya WWII aircraft box, but it is MUCH deeper, and loaded with cool stuff. They even give you several different options for how to build the instrument panel, along with a sufficient number of parts and decals to let you try each method and see which one you like best. I don't think any aftermarket mods are even going to be needed on this one. I may get the metal gear struts and weighted tires for it later, but right now I'm pretty happy with how it all looks.

Outside of their own update sets for it, you really shouldn't need any AM stuff. But then again......it is a ZM kit.

Joe, Eagle, Kyle thanks for the kind words!
Eagle the build was a combo of reality using pictures from the Ho-229 at the Smithsonian and artistic freedom.
Keith I am stoked to see your D-9 and A-7 come together with what you have planned here! I see both of us are opening a bird up so this should be excellent

Hell yeah! 100% no brainer, I'm in!! Think I have about a dozen or so kits to choose from, so I'll have to let you know. I have to finish the A8 that I am stuck on right now and will have to get it done by the spring, so that is going to be a challenge for me. Think that it will be a D-9 in 1/48th but more to follow. Need to build 80 kits per year until I'm 100 to deplete my stash. Maybe I should sell a couple.

I've been slacking with the updates. And there's a lot to update! Current list below. I decided what I'm going to do as well, at least to start...the 1/72 Eduard F-8 kit (which looks fantastic) followed by a 1/32 Hasegawa A-5. We'll see how long those take me. I'd like to do a 1/48 something after that - probably the Hobby Boss V18. If I get super nuts, there could be a 1/24 Trumpeter offering to wrap things up. 406 Silverado – 1/48 Dragon Ta-152C-0 Jeaton01 – 1/48 Classic Airframes 190V-1 Chromedome35 – 1/48 Tamiya 190D-9 Stikpusher – TBD Dupes – 1/72 Eduard 190F-8 and 1/32 Hasegawa 190A-5 Handiabled – 1/32 Hasegawa 190D-9 Adt70hk – 1/72 Airfix 190A-8 and 190F-8 Mrt51 – 1/72 Tamiya 190A-3 Deafpanzer – 1/48 Eduard 190A-8 Deafstug – 1/48 Eduard 190A-9 Tojo72 – 1/48 Hasegawa 190A-4 Keavdog – 1/48 Tamiya 190A-3 Kyledehart5 – 1/48 Hasegawa 190A-4 Thechaos – 1/48 Fujimi 190D-9 OR Hobby Boss 190D-9 Eaglecash867 – 1/32 ZM 190A-4 TJ – 1/48 Hasegawa 190A-4 M1Carbine – 1/48 ZM Ta-152H-1 Rod the Fixer - 1/48 Tamiya 190D-9 Mrversatile - 1/48 Eduard 190A-8 TerrorzScale - 1/48 Eduard 190D-9 Tcoat - TBD Joe Rix - 1/72 DML Ta-152H-1 Modelcrazy - 1/48 Eduard 190A-8/R2 Disc0stu - 1/48 Eduard 190A-8 Terrorzscale - 1/48 Eduard 190A-7 Hasenpfeffer - TBD Thug626 - TBD Dean48ws - 1/48 Eduard 190A-2 Blkhwkmatt - TBD Ogrejohn – maybe? Hey guys, I thought that I had no Fw-190s in the stash, but it turns out I do - a 1/32 Hasegawa Fw-190D. I’d like to join in on the Butcher Bird party if I may.
Markings will be cliche JV-44, with the red undersides with white stripes. Some schemes are too cool to pass up regardless of how overdone they are. If I ever build a navy Skyraider it would have to be the one with the stinging bee and giant thunderbolt.
My Dora-9 will be a simple build with as little aftermarket or corrections possible. It will be a fun build to try to get back into airplanes. But you know how these things go. First it’s just brake lines and radio antenna, then it’s a resin prop & spinner, a corrected forward wheel well, some brass machine gun barrels, then 3-D printed cockpit stuff, and on and on. I gotta stop this kind of mission creep.
As an aside, I first saw the Fw-190 described as the “butcher bird” in Revell’s 1974 catalog. My dad who was a WW II buff explained the connection to the tiny Shrike and its habit of impaling its victims on thorns or branches.

We're all just kids putting plastic together When I was small, I built Monogram’s 1/48 Fw-190A with as many weapons as possible - I think I used the underwing dual gun packs and a centerline bomb rack. It was 100% inaccurate, but I loved it and didn’t care one bit.
