I’ve been wanting to run another Fw190 group build for a while now because of my love for these beautiful aircraft. I’ve 10 years ago when I kicked the 2013 Fw190 Group Build off at Fine Scale Modeler, I had no idea how big it would be. It had 48 participants and a whopping 42 completed builds in the nearly two years that it went on for. Additionally, I’ve been getting some friendly nudges here and there to run another one from some of the original participants in it that are now here on this forum. So….with that….let’s do this. The build will start on 1 January 2024 and end on 2 January 2025. The guidelines are as follows: 1) Any scale, any Fw 190 variant to include Ta 152's and V-18’s 2) Aftermarket items are definitely allowed. 3) Crossovers are welcome. 4) Started builds are fine but please limit construction at the fuselage halves glued together. 5) You can enter any time within the group build time frame. 6) Please post pictures of works in progress. And lastly, 7) Be social, encouraging and have fun. Build Roster as of 12/21/23: 1. 406 Silverado – 1/48 Dragon Ta-152 C-0 2. Jeaton01 – 1/48 Classic Airframes 109V-1 3. Chromedome35 – 1/48 Tamiya 190D-9 4. Stikpusher – TBD 5. Dupes – 1/72 Eduard 190F-8 and 1/32 Hasegawa 190A-5 6. Handiabled – 1/32 Hasegawa 190D-9 7. Adt70hk – 1/72 Airfix 190A-8 and 190F-8 8. A very firm maybe. I missed out on the Panther and Red Hot GBs for a bunch of reasons. Its been years since I've built a plane and this would be a good reason to remedy that.

I am in with my first airplane build ever. I will be building Tamiya’s 190 D9. I will keep things simple and do a oob build.

I'll be going with a newer offering and in a smaller scale to see if I can do this bird some justice. Along with some extra goodies:

The good thing about the 190 is that there is a TON of reference material as well as aftermarket for them.

Definitely not an aircraft builder. So I was wondering what would be a good kit. Would an Eduard Profipak kit be good since it has aftermarket in the kit to make it easier?

Honestly it depends on if you want to open the aircraft up or leave all the panels buttoned up. As far as 1/48 scale goes: Eduard kits are SUPER kits if you want to open them up. However, if you want to leave everything buttoned up AND have everything look somewhat normal in terms of the landing gear height then the Hasegawa kits are the way to go. Tamiya kits are probably the easiest build up but the main landing gear struts are too short making the aircraft take on a stubby legged look. Hope that helps you out Dennis.

This is good info for me as well as I would not be planning to have everything opened up. Probably a relative simple OOB build once I decide on a kit.

Ohhhhhh boy. Yeah, I'm in for a January GB! Any preference re: scale/variant? Are we trying to cover all of the different options?

I might be in with the new ZM 1:32 190 if I can get my hands on one before the GB starts. I know next to nothing about WW2 aircraft, so this should be interesting.

I've got a couple of their kits and they pack a wallop in terms of detail. One good thing about group builds is that you can start out on a build knowing dang near next to nothing and by the end of it you'll almost be a subject matter expert on these.

Well, we've got a couple of months to go...maybe I'll wait and see what other people go with and try to find something that's not done. If anyone is in need of a FW-190 of some sort, I'm sure I have a couple of extras in my stash I could trade away or part with!
