Gripe about another forum site-Pls Keep Replies Respectful

I don't know how many people they did this to and what was said, but one person I know shared with me what he posted. And oh my, there was nothing in that post that warranted action, at all! And when this person contacted FSM, they advised him they don't want people destroying their brand.

I find that laughable. FSM needed to look in the mirror. The people destroying their brand are the same people in that reflection.

I wish them the best. In my opinion, the place needs a good shakeup and it is looking like the new owner is doing just that. Time will tell.


Yeah, I was one of the folks who was “moderated” for like a six month timespan for no known reason stated to me by them. Never was told what my offense was. And since the PM system was down at the time, there was no way to ask. I was running a GB at the time and participating in others. Needless to say, that ended my participation in those, as my posts on Fridays would not be moderated until Monday and nobody would see any work or words of mine by that point. Once my time in the cooler was up I decided it was not worth the effort to actively partake in or run any GBs there anymore, nor post any WIPs. All good things do end. 

Sorry to hear that happened to you,Stik. That would have been upsetting. Especially, not knowing what the offense was. How can a person correct what they are doing wrong, if anything, if you don't know what the issue is. That is just unbelievable.

It is still a mystery to me that I wasn't sent to the woodshed. I was very vocal about their site and how they were handling things. Frankly, knowing what I knew in how they were handling dissent, I was expecting it. Not that I wanted that to happen, but I was prepared for it.

Still having the really slow loading times and 504 errors over there. I also see that people are still able to post there, so I guess the announcement they made the other day about the status of the forums isn't quite true. I had only been a member there since 2020, and had only bought the magazine occasionally at the supermarket or hobby shop when there was interesting stuff on the cover, so I definitely wasn't a full subscriber. I was a little taken aback by the fact that the guys over there who HAD BEEN loyal subscribers didn't seem to be treated any better than us non-subscribers. Subscribers are customers, and you can't treat customers like that and expect to have a successful business. You want to ignore me?  Fine.  But don't ignore your subscribers and their concerns.  Joe already knows my opinion about the moderation practices over there, but I'll say it here. Over the past several months, we have all seen unresolved connectivity issues there, with ZERO real communication from anybody as to what was happening...not really even a "We're aware of the issues, and we're looking into it." This lack of communcation led to people getting frustrated and led to speculation about the future of the forum...and then what happens when one of the staff finally shows up? Pretty much everybody who commented on the thread gets berated for being frustrated and speculating AND everybody else who hasn't yet gets a stern warning about being moderated if they add to the discussion. All of that with ZERO apologies or explanation for a complete absence of staff for several weeks, if not months. Not cool. Also didn't really care for the ego of some of the staff that has already been mentioned. I always figured we were just a bunch of guys enjoying the same hobby, coming up with our own ways of approaching modeling. Never quite understood why some feel that they should be exalted like royalty. OK...rant mode off. In the words of Forrest Gump..."That's about all I have to say about that."

I have long considered the admins over there to be a bunch of arrogant asses who treated the forum as a disease they looked down upon. I always felt like when they did show up out of the blue it was like being called in to see the Penguin from the Blues Brothers. Ruler and all. Open your mouth and "WHACK".

I think I joined in either 03 or 04. Basically the time I was working at HobbyTownUSA and trying to get back into modeling. I almost never posted, used more for researching kits and getting the latest news as I was buying the kits for our store. At some point I stopped logging in, and it was so long ago I cant even remember the email used to join so I had to rejoin a few years ago. I get you TJ, it sucks to see something you've been a part of since the beginning crumble. I feel for you guys, but thats why I said Im happy to have MSC. So hopefully all your crew is here, or comes here and you can continue that just in a different place.

   I was never banned nor put in timeout by the FSM forums however I remember basically having the last word on a topic from the 2021 Nats that the OP of that thread wouldn't let go. I kinda raked him over the coals and shortly after the thread was locked then deleted. I never did see the OP again, maybe he just left or perhap he was banned. That was as close to being a " troubemaker" as I got. It is a shame that they finally went belly up, I do hope for the sake of our hobby they get right side up again....they have a TON of work to do.

I remember when stik got canned, it was around the same time that I got canned for "causing damage to the brand" because I was being critical of site malfunctions and changes to the magazine, (I was a subscriber). Eventually, problems with access and adds killed my interest. I stopped going there and cancelled the subscription. Can't see myself going back, besides, I'm happy here.

I get that it's sad because it once was a good thing, but I'm happy here. This is a fantastic modelling site, all I could ever ask for with a top bunch of people.
