Between MSC and MCM, I have enough to keep me busy. Every time I have tried to log in at FSM, or engage in that forum there is an issue. I gave up. It bothered me for a bit, as I left one GB unfinished, but I just do not have the time, or the patience to deal with what ever issues they are having/had. Just makes you appreciate this place. When I come here. Everything works. I'm not overrun with ads that make it difficult to engage with the forum. I don't have to check every hour to see if its back up." It just works. Ya - you still owe me an F1 build π. Reboot it when we start the openwheel GB next month. I wonder if this new org is going to buy up all these titles and go 100% paperless delivery. Nothing to back that up, just thinking

I find the fact that this was announced a week ago but there is still no official thread from the FSM staff about it on the forums, as just further evidence how little they care about their forums. Seriously how hard is it to have some intern link to the announcement.
There isn't a mention anywhere at Kalmbach that I can find, their last news release being over a month old and talking about Trains magazine going digital.

I run Adblock plus and never have pop up ads. I just made some posts with lots of photos on FSM and it is up and running very fast, no delay at all. I really don't have a dog in the fight except that I don't want anything modeling related to have problems. The more the better.

Interesting how on the weekend, the forum access problem suddenly disappeared

The reset of the site is slow but accessible. The forums are consistently resulting in 504 errors.

β¦and the weekend carpet shampooing of the FSM server continues. Who is this mystery evil janitor who strikes on weekends? It must be at his convenience, as I notice there is more traffic on the forum during the weekdays. Maybe weekends are when heβs home from school and can work undisturbed from his mommyβs basement.
OK switching sarcastic mode βoffβ. But this disruption of service is annoying as heck.

The new owner of FSM and Firecrown Media, Craig Fuller, wrote a full page in the current FSM issue on where he wants to go with the Kalmbach assets. He is a believer in print magazines and expects to go that direction with FSM, "creating coffee table worthy magazines with gorgeous photography and stories that engage audiences". He also remarked that there are plans for the forum: "Rest assured, we plan to keep the forums, but our roadmap includes significant upgrades to ensure their stability and functionality with more modern aesthetics and experience."

I've not lost interest in the FSM forums but the constant issues with the site really have turned me off. Also all the cool kids are here I was only on there for a few months but pretty much everybody that I would want to interact with are here so it was easy for me to abandon FSM. I was never a fan of the format over there even when it did work sort of right so haven't missed it.

I cut my modeling teeth on the FSM Forum 20 years ago when I was getting back to modeling,I was a subscriber since 1982,but stopped a few years ago.So yeah,I'm not happy with the way things have gone.It is true that many of the people I met there are here,so that's good. I still visited everyday and try to participate when I could.Hopefully the new owners can improve it.

Now that's some good news for FSM. This Craig Fuller fella sounds like he's got his act together. Thank you for posting that John. FSM was the first scale modeling forum I joined in 2011 and I've met many many friends there most of whom are now here. I still visit every once in a while but it's gotta be on my computer at home that I have an adblocker on.

I may go back if they fix it up but I became so discouraged by the whole magazine as well as the forum that I cancelled my subscription after almost 20 years. If they put out a more frequent hardcopy with interesting articles, pictures bigger than a postage stamp and bring the focus back to such things as reviews, what's new and reader builds I may subscribe again. I will not be interested if they stick to the current less up of less for the same price and every issue included about 30% of it's content on yet again how to paint a figure. It needs to have the passion returned instead of just going with filler material!

I didn't cancel my subscription, just let it run out, then reason being that there's almost nothing in any magazine that you can't find on line or the forums.Stating that on FSM got me banned for 3 months at one time.

I had the magazine subscription for many years but dropped as it seemed to just regurgitate the same articles, over and over. I still have the old issues but truthfully, I haven't opened one in years. Their forum was my first online modeling experience, and I posted there quite a bit. Until a member named TomTerrific insulted me in a thread. I replied to his insult with a succinct "F*ck you." I will not be talked to like he did to me. He also said if I had any issues, just send him a PM. Heh, heh, so, I did. I spared nothing in telling him what I thought about him and his "hand-painted" models. I also offered a suggestion, common here in Texas, about what sex act he could do with himself, and with the horse he rode in on. π He posted the PM in open forum and claimed he was being cyber-bullied. I was banned, and perhaps he was as well. Who cares? π
A few years later, I wanted some info that was in my private message folder there at FSM forums. I sent a message to Aaron Somebody, asking if I could be allowed into that for just a few minutes. He replied that if I told him what was needed, he would retrieve it for me. All the while, I'm getting emails asking me to resubscribe to the magazine. I offered him a deal; let me back in for 10 minutes and I would consider resubscribing. Lol! I never heard back, and I've never looked back either. π

Itβs been a long time since FSM debuted. I still have the first issue. I was in awe at the articles - the scratchbuilt 1/72 M1 Abrams stretched my mental limits as to what could be done.
I guess I just got older and moved on.
I think there are guys I know over there that have not made the move over to here.

I was one of the originals on FSM. 2003 I joined. Back then it was great conversation about models and modeling. Large group of like minded individuals who enjoyed putting plastic together. One of the best was the FAA/RAF group build that lasted for 11 years. As a group we built a Tamiya Spitfire and sent it all over the world with each person building a few sections and sending it to the next. It ended up at its destination in England after about a year. I think John jeaton01 and I are the only two left from that group that still post anywhere. I do have to say here at MSC is what FSM used to be. I feel this is a family, dysfunctional , but a family.

Something that's been going on over there the past few weeks that is kinda hard to ignore is the fact that the site is barely accessible most of the time, yet the "Welcome-Introduce yourself" section seems to be rife with "new members" that have joined in just the last couple of weeks...many of them during the times when the rest of us couldn't get on. The sudden influx just seems a little strange, given all of the problems with site access, along with strange links being added to posts here and there lately. Coincidence? Kind of a strange target for scammers though.
