Well the site comes up now but tells me I don't exist when I try to log in. That has been an issue for me off and on the past several years, and a big part of why I mostly just lurked there unless a thread really grabbed me. Just became too much work to post a sentence.

I subscribed for over 20 years and I stopped because of the price and the fact that there was nothing in the magazine that I couldn't find online or in the forums.Reviews, build blogs, how too videos, upcoming kits and so forth. It was never anything personal, just business.

I do most of my forum surfing on a kindle. Just for hahas I tried to get on FSM. Took three days. Finally got through this morning. SLOW. And the ads are just obnoxious. I've been on that forum for 20 years and its definitely on a downhill slope.
Didn't renew my subscription last year. Went from 10 issues to 8 to 6 and no price difference. I subscribed from 1990 except for a few years in the late 90's when money was tight

Well I'll say that the forum may not work well but their automatic subscription and "special offer" e-mails system is pumping out material at an almost spam like level. After not being at work for two weeks I returned to 26 emails from them!

I just tried to login now to update GB pages. Still timed out. At this point, I may just wash my hands of them. The first of two group builds ends at the end of January, and I finished 3 kits for that build so I am ok with that. The 2nd was the F1 build which ends in March and I am not finished, but oh well. Maybe some of them will find their way over here!

I'd be onboard as I have a couple F1s in my stash, and I really want that new 12th scale Meng kit.

There's a few of us F1 folks over here. Maybe we do an 'open wheel' GB to cast a wider net.
The page load times have tanked - pretty unusable.

I might be confusing F1 with open wheel, but I agree cast a big net and we could have all kinds of fun. Educate me please, my stash has the 1/12 scale Tyrell 6whl, the Renault and the Lotus 1978...are those F1s or am I off the mark?

I have two other kits to build. tcoat you should do a tractor/equipment type GB. My son loves that type of equipment and he would not say no to me building him something.

I joined FSM only a few years ago, so I'm not aware of a lot of its history. I have fallen foul of the moderators but bear no grudge. I am still a member and want to continue there as I am still running a couple of GB's, but the adds make it almost impossible to navigate. I learnt a lot from that site and made some good friends, but MSC seems a lot more positive and much more user friendly.

The mods there are not businesslike in their actions and are often quite arbitrary on their moderation of whatever issues happen... during business hours of course. This place is far more user friendly, and the ability to post your photos directly from your smart phone is a huge advantage. Not to mention that there are not pop up ads all over the screen interfering with your ability to read or post. I think that you're gonna enjoy this place once you get into the groove here.

I'm new here but quite a few members know me from FSM. I was on FSM for ~16 years. Originally I enjoyed it and made a lot of friends. Little by little, the site got harder to get around with all the changes, pop-ups, and unscheduled weekend shut downs. Since the middle of December, I tried to get an answer in the "Error reporting". Not one word. Sent a message in the "Tech Assistance" to Tim. Got a message back to send him a copy of the "error message" and he'd see what he could do. I sent it to his e-mail. A month later, still no answer. Well I don't think I need a house to fall on me. Been going there every once in a while and there doesn't seem to be many new posts. They cut the number of issues in the magazine and upped the price. I haven't been able to download the "dl" copies or newsletters. So, that's the end of that.
This site is just the opposite. Thank you for the invitation. Some of my friends are here and I think more will be coming as the word spreads. I think the title of this site says it all "Modelers Social Club".
Stay safe. Jim

The FSM forum was definitely the "gateway drug" that got me firmly back into modeling in 2006. By 2011 or so, I had grown reaaaaally tired of the frequent dustups and BS and lack of moderation, and moved on. It's unfortunate. It was a huge, active bunch for a long time, and I miss a lot of the people I used to talk to there. So true! When I got back into the hobby, it was the first forum I joined. The SPAR which ended up splitting up and SPAM was born. A lot of acrimony in this history. Anyway, I occasionally get on FSM to look around. But SPAM and MSC have become home.

How I missed this one, no excuse, but as always, pizza is on the table in back, help yourselves, yall. However, I can't stop laughing at some of the comments, yall are closet comedians, that's for sure!! So far most of the comments are concerning FSM site, a site I've never been a part of, but have checked into once or twice before. I've just recently left KM for good because of some of the same issues. I just noticed a few others who have recently done the same, they have planted their flags here on MSC, excellent! Ever since the new KM forum was launched a few years back it hasn't been the same, at least to me it hasn't. Several admin types were quite a bit over the top and should never have had such authority, and there's been some serious negativity ta boot. I even violated my own personal rule and got sucked into some of that, but I digress and I will refrain from dredging up the sludge; that belongs over there, not here, and I personally appreciate each and every one of you guys and the few gals we have here. This is a fun positive crowd! Respect, honesty, integrity, and good clean fun all wrapped up in a hobby like it's supposed to be, here at MSC. The saying, "This is a hobby, not a job" is fact. I am constantly amazed at the talent coming over to join in here at MSC. Reading the posts in this thread proves it, yall got your heads screwed on correctly, so Ruck On, Bby! I think a big part of why we're having fun is because we’re always willing to give an assist when someone needs it. And the comedians are plentiful, too, btw! P.S. I like how yall keep the GB's going. I'm a slow painter and I padittle way too much in my model bunker to have a schedule to maintain. Honestly, if it's a new war movie I'm watching, the brush gets crusty, or I'll get sidetracked trying to find something I really don't need at the time, lol. Some of you know what I mean. I'm one who likes to strive for historical accuracy, particularly in painting & markings. So if I see something that looks unusual or strange, rather than accuse or blast away, I will ask where the inspiration comes from? Perhaps its a valid one off scheme, and the builder can explain their source... or it can be an imaginary flight of fancy or "what if?" scheme... again the builder can explain their inspiration. Often those explanations make the presentation that much better with the knowledge of what's behind the look of the finished project. I remember a builder elsewhere who would make realistic fictitious markings on his WWII aircraft builds, often using his own, his wife's or even his kids initials as identifier codes on the models. He could do whatever he pleased for certain things like nose art, squadron colors, etc., and not be historically wrong because it never existed to begin with. Carlos, you "are" the go-to Man for historical pics, for sure. And, yes, you are very diplomatic in your approach, hence the Point Du Hoc color tones. I knew what you were saying and I appreciated it completely. That is what makes MSC a home to hang one's hat. Kudos, Carlos! I too have been known for being anal retentive with historical accuracy, and also for lacking in such, but mostly, I do like to get it right, if I can. And then, just sometimes, there's this thang we call, artistic license, and all that hooey goes by the way side, HA! Has the FSM site borked again? I can’t get in. Maybe they locked the door on me. 504 Gateway Time-out for me.... Yall crashed it, sheesh! Those are F1 cars. This is the second year I've run the F1 build over there and we had decent participation the first year, but fell off a bit this year so I was thinking of switching to an open wheel group build and get F1, Indy, Sprint etc. Well you guys know I am in on this. I would maybe even do one of every type of open wheel I have. lol. Wow, I do have an F1 car in my stash, woof. Might need to take a break from figure work and see how un-goobered I can get this puppy done, HA! www.scalemates.com/kits/amt-ertl-6827-lola-cosworth--141632

The FSM forum was definitely the "gateway drug" that got me firmly back into modeling in 2006...... '09 for me. I can say, I was in a "bad way" at the time. Work had dried up in 07 (my last model was in 05). I had gone back to flight training in 07. Got my instrument ticket and commercial multi-engine. 100's of resume's out...zero prospects. I went "door to door" trying to get some work...even McD's told me no. A few little jobs here and there, just enough to keep bills paid. I only ate one meal a day...venison, that I pulled from the woods myself! If I got really hungry during the day, I'd go shoot a squirrel. My wife and daughter didn't know how bad it was. (In the grand scheme, things could have been much worse). I NEEDED something to focus on and distract me. I had a small stash still, but zero desire. I was not aware of forums back then. I checked out FSM's website, just to kill some time. "Forum"... Checked it out. Signed up and started Trumpeters 1/32 P-40. It did wonders for getting me out of my "funk". It is sad how it has gone over there...but so many from back then are here...so it's all good. The mag...well, I let that go back in 13, after 15 years(with a small gap, 07-08). Too many "re-runs" and really nothing new. I did submit to the mag and got into the "readers gallery" with an F-82, and a couple "tips"...pretty cool, I guess! It was a good run while it lasted!

Hey Steve - that's an Indy car, but ya - all open wheel GB would be fun. Toldjya, I'm clueless, HA! I just put in an Airbrush booth, a permanent one, still need the vent to the outside when the snow fly ends. I just may have to do this and test my "clean" building skills, HA! My build might be SOB, straight out of the box, but I think I can hang, for a bit. It's all the needed upgrades, nuts, bolts, wires, plumbing, etc., that would be a complete change of mind set for cars, bikes, etc. My Harley is close to anatomically correct, so is the BMW R75. On those two I went full research, schematics, etc., so they are as close to real as I could get them. I'll be checking for the GB, and if I fail to show up for class would one of yall remind me, plz?

Now that is a relief, Kyle, lol, it is still a cool lookin car, and I may get rid of the pink, not my style, actually. You car guys ride in pure admiration from me. I would be interested in such a GB, so please keep me posted. After this latest build I'll be recovering "Easy Pickins", and after that I'll be breaking from figs for a bit to work armor, jeeps, trucks, maybe a few 1/35th figures, but I need a good break. This Amway rig just might do the trick. Thanks, Buddy! P.S. Kyle, if you wouldn't mind, post the link so I can have a look see, plz
