Hi all many thanks for all the comments guys Just a few pics of the shield, the inside is just about finished, the outside has a bit further to go. i got the pattern from the internet and appears to be quite authentic. So washes of green and burnt umber for the background colour, the pattern is yellow ochre based with darker shading with orange and burnt umber, and highlights of a lighter yellow. I wanted to get a faded look if possible. all for now Paul

Hi all Many, many thanks for all the comments guys, this site never ceases to amaze me with the diversity of talent thats here and the support and encouragement from some first rate modellers ok ive been doing a fair bit of research into the Dacians and , on a good note, ive added a tattoo. Apparently they were great sun worshippers and many saw a sun tattoo as a potent luck symbol On a bad note i have to say that Carl Reid has made a bit of a boo boo. the main weapon of the Dacians was the Falx, a rather large curved sword and of such immense power that it nearly bought the romans down, mainly because of its size and the fact that it could cut a roman shield nearly from top to boss with one stroke I wouldnt want my head behind that. Unfortunately Carl has sculpted the falx with the cutting edge on the outside edge and not the inner curve the secondry weapon called a Sica was a large dagger or short sword but was also curved, whereas on the model its very straight, more like a Roman short sword. So my problem is, 1 am i being a bit of a rivet counter and does it really matter and 2 if it does matter have i got to make a new Falx and Sica, now as the Sica goes it could of course be said that its a captured Roman short sword and the Dacians defeated the Romans in many battles, but the Falx is definately wrong, so what do you guys think all for now Paul

Cor.........tough call mate , i love the curved Falx and to be 100% honest mate...................would never have known the sharp side was on the inner!!!............not in a million years, so to me if yad not said nuffin`............id`ve been non the wiser ;D I reckon you could add the inner edge with a bit of careful shaping with the back of a small blade/fine paper etc...............the hard bit would be to thicken up the back edge............somehow!!....................otherwise you`ll end up with a double-edge sword!! I`m with jackwagon on this one with regards to using them both matey
