Indeed. I like the large bomb. And I like what you’ve done with the engine.

I am enjoying watching this build. I like how you tackled the wing root gap. Or, should I say chasm? I have the same paint shaker as you. It was a game changer for my paints.

Yeah it’s a great shaker. Before I got it, I had only ever shaken my paints by hand. Hoping to have an update for this build sometime this weekend. Currently consumed by my other build at the moment.

So much effort doing the pre-shading... it will pay off at the end!

Superb paint work! You layered it perfectly to preserve your pre-shading work Thank you! The line between too much and not enough topcoat is very thin for light colored builds. I figured the varnish will also dull it down a bit more as well.

I noticed I missed a few lines of rivets on one of the wings. I added those in tonight. Will be getting the engine cowl and red insignia painted on tomorrow night.

deafpanzer thank you! Painted on a few things and added the engine cowl paint. Didn’t thin the engine cowl paint as much as I should, so has a slight sheen to it. Should be able to knock that down with flat varnish towards the end.

Very nice! I have the stand-alone kit in the stash. I had no idea how big of a bird she was and all that wing! Looking awesome - and I like fixed gear/wheel pants planes for some odd reason.

A lovely job on the pre-shading paint work. I especially like that you painted the hinomarus. Well done!

Thank you! Yeah it’s going to be the largest WWII plane I have built I think. The B5N and Stuka are also pretty large.

A lovely job on the pre-shading paint work. I especially like that you painted the hinomarus. Well done! Thank you! I had to paint the Hinomaru on after dealing with the Hasegawa decals on my last build. They are very thick, and seem to tear easily. I purchased a circle cutter specifically for this build so I could paint them on instead.

I wouldn't worry too much about the sheen on the cowl... it appears to be present on the real types

Thanks everyone. Bomb painted as close to the real thing as I could find. Applied a dark brown wash to the engine and got it glued in. Bottom has all the goodies attached now. Tomorrow I will lay down a gloss varnish in preparation for decals. Getting close to the finish line!

The VAL is just as big as a Stuka but looks bigger because of the wing. Comparing it to Japanese fighters its huge

Gotta love all that prep work going into this paint job Keith. The results speak for themselves and your Val is looking the part. Carlos is definitely correct on that slight sheen being prevalent on these birds pertaining to the semi gloss black paint on the nose/ forward cowlings. I didn't realize how large this aircraft was until I saw the photo of you holding upside down to show the bottom side. For a sec there I thought it was 1/32nd scale.

I’m glad you and Carlos pointed that out. I’ll make sure to leave it with a slight sheen when complete.

I built the Val last year I think. I love the kit and the box art is what got me on this one. She is a big girl and looks so good built up. Great work, keep it coming.

Thank you all! handiabled brandonk dupes kyledehart5I got the gloss varnish on last night and tonight applied decals. Originally I was going to rely on the decals provided by Hasegawa for the horizontal stabilizers, but once I saw the huge amount of clear film… I knew I had to paint them on. I also have two IJN pilot figures to go along with this build. Tonight I got one of the complete except for the matte varnish which I’ll apply once both figures are complete. Tomorrow night I will seal in the decals with another layer of gloss varnish.

Just came along this. Really nice job so far. If have troubles making straight lines with your riveting tool I suggest dymo tape as a roller guide.
