A couple years ago i built a little diorama for my son with one of his favorites, the 1970 Camaro. I set it at the local car show that’s held on the old town streets. And now i think that single show car looks a bit lonely. Time to build another show entrant for his Christmas gift. and this year’s entrant i’ll be doing the hot pink version off the side of the box…how convenient, going to paint it the same time I do Shirley’s dragster i got all the parts out yesterday and applied some primer (if you look close there’s a Home Depot Nascar in there too lol). Many debates in my head ongoing about how to show it. My current thinking is as a curbside, just showing up to park at the car show. Reason being, opening the hood seems to take something away from the shape of the Baldwin Motion car

I’m truly a Panther Pink fanatic and one day will have to get the 70-74 ‘Cuda in that color! Now, let it be known, it can’t be Mary Kay pink…just that crazy MOPAR color of hot pink is cool on muscle cars imho

I hear you Chris. I’m the same way with Panther Pink and say a Matte Black hood. Totally get it

That's looking great so far, Mongoose! Don't know what you normally use for your mixing cups, other than the soy sauce cup you showed, but those little paper bathroom cups work great for pretty much any model paint. The wax doesn't seem to be bothered at all by lacquer thinner. I paid about 20 bucks for 500 of them.
How did you get your masking sticker sheet material laid down so nicely? Are you using some kind of transfer paper?

… How did you get your masking sticker sheet material laid down so nicely? Are you using some kind of transfer paper? yep, i use a clear friskette as transfer paper. My latest find is a clear cupboard liner Much cheaper than these “special” artists friskettes. Couldn’t do this without it for sure. Also, a side benefit is you can use the friskette to hold the mask just above the surface and do some alignment, sometimes even be able to realign it without ruining the mask Friskette

That color is awesome on this car! Really nice work.
I'm working on the orange box Camaro kit currently. So you've got my attention too. Looking forward to your updates. Best of luck!

…wife is off to bed and the paint had 5 hours of dry time so i pulled the pin striping tape off and brush painted the fine pin stripes around all the main stripes. Then i let that dry an hour. Here’s the final reveal, just a few days dry time and i can wet sand it all, do some touch ups nd clear coat the body. Super happy with this since I don’t do many cars!

I did some custom interior work. I thought this would bring it all together and I just love white interior that you’ll see you in a few cars I do that’s a pattern ha ha I’ve got the glass in on the body so in the next night or two I should have body on frame.

Interior looks great! With all the wonderful custom painting you are doing on this, what color are you going to put on the engine?

Interior looks great! With all the wonderful custom painting you are doing on this, what color are you going to put on the engine? None lol I’m doing curbside, so no open hood, no need to look underneath 😀 I debated doing something with the engine, but opening the hood destroys the look of the Baldwin Motion silhouette. So, that’s how I decided on curbside style.

This was going pretty well till I tried to put the body on the frame! It looked more like a funny car competing with Shirley at that point in time. Some alignment, some brute force, and some thick superglue with accelerator took care of my problem though ha ha I’m really happy with the stance on the Camaro. On the front I did have to take the arms off and turn them upside down because otherwise the front end was way too high and in real life, the gap between the tires, and the fender would be more like a gasser.

Excellent work. I would agree that you ended up getting the stance perfect. It looks great sitting there with Shirley too!

Ok .....now that I'm home I can look at all of this progress. That's one heckuva color scheme you've got going on in that interior and you're right.....you TOTALLY nailed the stance on that Camaro. I usually either have to turn the steering knuckles upside down or drill new holes higher up on the knuckle for the front ends to drop. I dunno why AMT constantly does that with these high stances in the front. I've also built their 67 Mustang and 1970 Corvette and they all have the same issue. That Camaro is really looking good. Have you ever considered putting a coat of Tamiya Smoke over the wheels to give them a little more realistic chrome wheel effect? If you haven't then take a spare wheel lying around and try it. I think you'll like what you see as it'll get rid of the toy chrome like look that model car wheels have.
The Muldowney dragster is looking good also. I tried one of these rail dragsters as a kid and it drove me insane trying to get everything together as I remember. You make this build look like you didn't have an issue one out of it. Beautiful work on both of these so far Chris.

What was that material you used for masking? Looks like there was very minimal bleed through even on the compound curves.
