See the Flak crew below This is the first figure I have painted after 25 years hiatus I have resumed my modelling. Back then I used to paint figures in oils, so this is my first attempt at a face in Vallejo acrylics. Please let me know what you think and how I might improve? I am building a Diorama, and have a thread going in the Axis WW2 Military Vehicle Forum. So this is my practice figure, I think it is a 1/35th Verlinden resin figure, but not sure as had for over 25 years.

Hey Stuart, I'm no figure painter myself but what you've done here looks pretty dang spiffy to my eye. This is one area of modeling that I'd definitely like to get this good at. Glad you broke the streak and came back to plastic modeling and furthermore glad that you are here.

I couldn't get a figure painted that well at any time. I don't think you have lost a step in the time off

He looks great to my eyes! I envy you guys who have the understanding of shading and color usage for this kind of art. Excellent job.
And welcome back to the hobby!👍

Your first figure in 25+ years?!?! You did far better than us especially the eyes as it is usually the hardest part to get it right. I assume it is 1/35 and those Verlinden has very excellent details which makes painting a lot easier than typical plastic figures.

Yes 1/35th, the resin detail is very good, I'll post more photos as the figure progresses.

Just like riding a bike, ya never really do lose much. This is looking spot on, keep going! I must admit though, I usually go through the bump and grind on the faces with every new project. Kinda the opposite, "If ya don't use it, ya lose it."
Bookmarked!
P.S. Would you post the link to the dio, kinda tie them together for quick reference, if you please?

For now finished the test figure, he will appear in my next project after the 88. A diorama with the Tamiya LRDG Cevy 30cwt, so he has been painted as an LRDG crew for this. I'll do some fine tuning when I get onto that project sometime in 2024. I am pleased with the result, so onto the 88 crew.

Here is the first figure for the 88 crew, the hornet heads I am using are so much easier to paint as the detail is much more crisp. Here is the weekend's work on the face is just about done so onto the field cap next.

First of the 88 gun crew completed apart from fitting the gun level adjustment wrench when installing the figure and 88 gun in the diorama. The figure will be weathered into into the scene when all assembled in the diorama.

This is some truly masterful work Stuart. Your painting and effects are to be admired. Love all the shading and layering you're doing with these figures as it makes for a very realistic effect.

Between the repositioning and the paint work, it’s hard to believe that this is an old Tamiya figure! The Hornet also head helps immensely… Wow!

I spent hours scribing each of the figures details to improve the definition on the pockets and rest of the clothing seam lines etc. Any old figure can be improved this way if you are willing to put the time in.
