Better off with the masks anyway True but I want to get on top of the Eduard decals because they make a number of sets of stencils for some Tamiya kits I am doing. The Tamiya stencils are terrible and I will never use them again. Did I mention they are terrible. I would say I have about a 75% success rate with the Eduard decals, and by that I mean being able to remove the film with the decal intact. I have read and watched a lot of stuff about them but still not quite where I want to be with them. Jay

Outstanding work! I doubt anyone will be able to diss your Dora--even with the damaged decal debacle.

Yep, I agree. I would love to see you finish this one. You're past the decal issue now - even if it sucked when it happened. We all feel your pain. I've dealt with the same issue with the HGW wet transfers. Same concept with the same results I guess. At least those big, simple crosses are pretty easy to fix.

Thanks, guys! I’m not tossing it just yet. I did notice the left wing cross is slightly askew so I need to repaint it. I’ve sanded it off and repainted the camo but too tired to do the rest of it tonight. Probably unlike most people my models do end up in the trash sooner or later, finished or not. I don’t have a lot of display case space and nobody really cares about them but me anyway. I don’t want my family to feel bad about throwing them away when I pass so I am pretty proactive about keeping the number of finished models small. Usually after they’re done with competitions that’s it. Not sure if I’m going to do competitions anymore so have to figure out what I’ll base the decision on now. Probably won’t finish nearly as much without the pressure of the next show though.
I have used the HGW wet transfers, also with mixed results. The rivet sets work well for me and the film is easily removed. The stencils not so much. I threw out a Tamiya 1/32 Mosquito because of them. I very much agree with Spencer Pollard in that I don’t have a shelf of doom. Either the build goes well or it doesn’t. If it stops being fun I toss it. I’m not looking for a fight. I’m still having fun with this one for now.
Jay

Don't feel alone, decals on aircraft are my least favorite part of the hobby. I have the same troubles just as you describe, down they go, they won't adjust and I can't seem get 'em right. I have no idea what to do differently to solve this.
Gotta agree with the rest of the pack this looks really good, it'd be a shame to toss it

I have a One Man Army set of masks for my FW190 build. Everything I have heard about them is wonderful. Time will tell I guess when I start spraying paint

I pulled the plug on this build this morning. I missed the mark on the wing cross again somehow and the surface is too degraded from sanding and repainting to be perfect at this point. Not a great kit but it was my errors that killed it. No hard feelings. Some days you eat the bear and some days the bear eats you. I've got a number of other builds I need to finish so that's next. Thanks for the support. Jay ![](https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/ae122/tucohoward/20240128_080930.jpg)

Thanks for the support. Jay Ouch! I will say that I've salvaged paint jobs for less Jay and there is a way to save this. Wet sanding to get everything smooth again starting with around 2000 grit and working through the 4000, 6000, 8000 and then on to 12000 grit range will get your surface back to where you can work with it and mask off and repaint the affected area and give 'er another go. Of all the people I know, you'd be the guy that would pull through this. If the area marked off below were masked off and re-worked I could see that happening ![](https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/800x600q70/923/5RZsev.jpg)

Well crap....... sorry this Eduard boxing was a lemon Jay. Moving on is totally understandable at this point with the hurtles you've cleared so far. I hope once you clear your bench of waiting builds you grab a different 190 and get cranking again in this GB. It's been great having you a part of it and hey, it's only January, plenty of time left to get back into it again

Sorry to hear this but I completely understand also. This is supposed to be fun after all and if we’re not having fun there’s not much point. Completely understandable.

While, yes, I am capable of fixing this, I don't want to at this point. I understand a lot of people would but that's just not me these days. I do have a couple of kits in the stash that qualify for this GB so I am planning on getting back in. I have a Hasegawa 1/32 A-8 and a 1/32 ZM Ta 152H-0. Given everything I have seen and read I'm not sure the Ta 152 is what I want at this point but I have seen a couple of them finished that look great. I really like the 1/32 Hasegawa kits in general so that is probably more likely. 1/32 is my preferred scale so I will be happy to get back to it. I only started doing 1/48 for competition purposes. Right now I have two Eduard 109s, a Tamiya F-14D, and a Tamiya P-38J that are all very close that I want to finish. I have WIPs here for a couple of those I need to update. I'll be back.
Cheers, Jay

I really like your attitude how to deal with this. It is a hobby to have fun and you do whatever you want to. Now I am kinda nervous to start mine because it's an Eduard kit too so I really appreciate you taking your time to post updates and tips here.

Just plan it all out and test fit repeatedly.

Bummer to hear that it's over>>> but these 190D-9 kits can be a rough go. Looks like you got past most of the hurdles before the mojo monster beat it up. Still looks pretty dang good to me. Fuselage Camo was outstanding, I can only hope for as clean of lines when I get to mine.
Keep on trucking
<Matt
