For my next trick I will turn this bunch of partially completed long term Shelf Queen components into a Korean war med evac diorama.

Let me know if you need help, the Army sent me to maintenance school on the H-13 and some others. We had this version of H-13 in my guard unit.

Well this set up will sort of be the prequel to the opening scenes with an injured man being prepped for the chopper ride.

LOL I could have used you 15 years ago when I was originally building this. One of the reasons it was cast aside was because I couldn't for the life of me figure out why there was a locator pin in the tube coming up from the rear of the fuel tank and no place for it to go. The instructions for this kit were horrible and no help at all so no matter what I tried nothing would line up. Last night when I pulled the stuff off the shelf and started looking at it again I did 5 minutes worth of searching just to discover that the tube is part of the air intke and that isn't a locator pin on the end but actually a filter!

Move over leon, I wanna see too. This will be cool. One of my favorite TV shows and the helicopter was a big reason I watched.

Are you planning to do an Army or Marine medevac chopper? The Marine choppers were gloss sea blue, and of course used different markings than the Army H-13s Marine Corps Medevac H-13

Yeah, that screen is seriously undersized and does look like a peg of another part.
Saddle tanks came on the OH-13H, this is an OH-13B or C. Up to the E had the single tank and Franklin engine. The H and up had a Lycoming O-435 and saddle tanks.

Big fan. I built the multi-media Esoteric Models kit ages ago. More recently the Italeri kit which is pretty nice and I have the Italeri coast guard float bird in the stash.
Are you going to put this in some diorama scene?

Are you going to put this in some diorama scene? Yes. It will be the jeep ambulance medics prepping a patient for transport on the chopper. Sort like these only with the jeep there.

Great pics. Can you imagine that ride??? being wounded and hanging out like a wing. Whoa, more morphine please. And I flew in a little bird like that - a little Schweitzer 300 and it's a rush sitting in the co-pilots seat!

And I flew in a little bird like that - a little Schweitzer 300 and it's a rush sitting in the co-pilots seat! Since helicopter evac was brand new it got a lot of press coverage and there are scads of pictures out there. Judging by the creases in this dude's pants and the nice shiny oxford shoes I would be willing to bet this was a well posed shot on a base someplace.

The Tupperware containers of parts are now assembled and ready for flat coat after sitting for around 15 years. the chopper is straight OOB. Considered adding more but it looks busy enough for diorama purposes. Jeep also OOB with a couple of spare stowage added to fill it up a bit. Figures were done until I took this picture and realized I need to do more with the Marines boots and either they all closed their eyes because of the camera flash or I actually need to do them open! It is fun that they molded these guys very era appropriate since 3 of the 6 are smoking including the poor guy on the stretcher. At first glance the stretcher dude appears uninjured even though he is receiving plasma. But... Try laying down and putting your left foot straight out from your leg! Bet you won't stay that way long. He will get bandaged up in the final weathering stages.

Well everything was pretty much painted and in sub assemblies so didn't need much time. I did rework the two medic figures so they looked more Army than Marine after you asked which branch I was doing. Other than that it was just detail painting on all the figures since they were only very basic base coated before.

Those figures are still Marines. The Marines wore a different style of uniform than the Army, and those figures reflect that. The shirts and pants have a different configuration, and the Army did not issue camouflaged helmet covers at that time.
