Silverado, Handiabled & Lyle - thanks for checking in and TGIF. I had a mishap at my friend’s studio where I sm able to test spray paints. I gave him a part to spray and the mix was off - using old paint. I have spent hours cleaning up.

Note I was not pleased with my photography. I will redo this.

Thanks, gents - I hope to have redeemed myself. I’m using Rust-OLeum sprays that my buddy gave me when he cleaned out his garage. So let’s state up front that there’s gonna be a learning curve. I know it’s a bit on the raw side of cooked. This is before polishing. I gotta let this cure overnight. Right now it’s a bit pebbly. Also the photo is quite crappy. I'm pushing the iphone too far here so there's plenty of break up in the colors.
I am thinking about this kit. Why? It's a touchstone for me. It's not tremendously difficult to build with only 26 parts, but the challenge and the fun come to me every time I open the box. This particular kit came to me from Goodwill. I didn't really need another TOS E kit on my shelves, but I always feel better when I have one with me. After a two year hiatus from building plastic kits I find comfort here. I won't be moving on with this for a few days, but I am excited to do so.

Today’s update: Rain in Los Angeles. Nobody knows how to drive in the rain. This is not the weather for slinging groceries into an SUV and depending on your brakes to stop you. I woke up at 4:30 when the rain began outside. I trimmed the three parts - four parts; no five parts - that make up the lower hull and did a test fit. Some issues but I needed to glue the top halves together in order to correct them. I glued the halves with the hottest glue I have in order to make the best join possible, then I glued the deflector and shuttle bay doors in place on the lower half. Deflector fitment: Daylight (cloudy natural light) shot of deflector color: It’s reddish gold but sensitive to daylight as well as iPhone color balance. I shouldn’t criticize the camera but I am picking up some ideas here from being amongst you and want to do better.

I hear you about pushing certain cameras (phones in particular) to their limits but to me it doesn't matter because here you are.....back at the bench and back in the modeling community. That right there is a win-win in my book buddy.

Here is a clear view of the step issue on the neck. This was the first of the steel molded parts and that defect continues through later versions. I’m not sure about the Round 2 repop though. Never built one. I wanted to thank kyledehart and Silverado for replying. For me it’s been awhile and I truly appreciate being welcomed here by you / by everyone. Thank you!

Looking good. That misalignment is common in old tooling. Most likely they did nothing in the recent issues. I do know they removed the grid lines.

I agree. I’d say it’s likely to still be just as misaligned in the newer boxings as well. You’ll get it knocked into shape, I have no doubt!!

Nice work on everything so far Bruce. The deflector and sensor dish look much better on the second go around. I hear ya about LA drivers in the rain. I feel for the guys working traffic cars in that weather. I don’t miss that side of the job, or the LA drivers. 🤨 Keep the Enterprise updates coming!

I couldn't have said it better myself! I am so thrilled to be following one of your projects again. I hadn't realized how much I missed seeing your posts until I started following this. As for the 900, it's coming up soon! My biggest issue will be finding a place I can set it up and leave it for a week or so! LOL!

Thank you, Yeoman! I’m being merciless with macro shots in order to see the areas that need more attention. So in this case one half is simply a bit taller than the other. There is also a series of bumps above the fantail and a notch in the coving above the shuttle craft doors. I am mainly dealing with the upper seam starting with the deflector dish and working back towards the aft area. In the past I have used good old Squadron Green and the other stinky one called Tamiya White. I have since dispensed with those and use BSI Medium Gap Filling CA which I spread with a strip of sandpaper. Once a layer cures I sand that away then I repeat the process. Although this method will result in CA odor, this does dissipate quickly; putty stink sticks around - the exception being Milliput. Filling seams with super glue is the fastest way I know to build a clean, hard fill. Ye olde model builder trick of adding some grindings from a sprue helps fill the cracks and gaps even better. A quick spot check with a rattle can 1500 Mr Surfacer (still the best primer due to its fine particle layer) reveals areas that need more blending and shaping. I took this to show that the unglued gap between top and bottom halves looks quite good.

Gel CA is probably my favorite gap filler. It doesn't chip or crack like putties frequently do, and has les shrinkage while curing as well. If you use accelerator and wet sand, you can get much more rapid results than with putties. She is coming along nicely Bruce!

Carlos! Happy Monday, bud. Monday fell like the weight of the world, what with all of the rain, driving in the rain, grey gloomy thoughts on a rainy day—so here’s a sketch of a proposed structural mod: there is a gap between the insert part (Shuttlecraft Bay Doors) and the coving above. I used to fill this with putty but for this clean, minimalist out of box kinda build I think cutting a thin bendable piece of sheet styrene of an appropriate thickness ought to work best. The strip piece fills the gap and provides structural support, too.

Happy Monday Bruce! Your rain has made it east of the Colorado River and arrived here in time for dinner. We had gloomy gray all day too, but it didn't keep the flyboys in their fighters down this morning... I could hear them roaring by overhead most of the morning. Hard to feel down when you hear that sound overhead. Some sheet or strip styrene sounds like a great solution for the gap over the shuttle bay doors.

Thanks, Carlos! I finalized the interior braces and used Mr Cement Super Cement Black which is like Tamiya on steroids with black dye added - you can see if the glue is on target all the way. So yes I am moving along. Moving moving moving! Pictures when there’s sunlight again because the iPhone isn’t at its best in the dark and I’m too lazy to set up the light box. And really setting up a light box defeats the point I’m making. This is a me build - it’s a me project all about me getting back into action with an easy chestnut of a kit that I can finesse a bit.

Is that the gas cap on the starboard stern? Where do you get 1837 octane anyway?
