tcoat & deaf panzer - thanks for checking in - I had no idea this was labeled an observatory and/or a homing beacon until Carlos posted the diagram.

Here in merciless macro we see the fill strip which is in place. The next small add will be to connect the tube at the apex of the bay doors [Figure 2 below] with the lower edge of the coving, then after all seams pass inspection I will add the upper dome [Figure 1 below] which is not included. The design of the Enterprise is similar to the design of a submarine: Also: here are a few parameters on this project. Since it’s mine, I’m doing this as simply as possible. However, anyone who knows me will know that I like a level of detail and that will be a source of useful contrast between simplicity itself and far more accurate details. Truthfully I should have purchased two 22” Cutaway kits and a ton of resin but I like having limitations. This must be a personal growth issue or just from getting bogged down by my personal experience! Givens and druthers: 1. Out of the box! 2. Can spray paint, brush paint and no air brush work. 3. Striping to be masked and painted. 4. All grades of sandpaper and glue types permitted.

My buddy who works in visual effects is providing paint. He didn’t have any grey which is a problem. Grey lady, the whole ship is grey. So as he was heading to his home away from home (Home Depot) he asked me to pick a can of spray paint color. After much wrestling with all the color images and swatches on my phone I chose “Stone Gray.” Here it is side by side with a good shot of original TOS E grey paint: Close. Not quite. Add green wash per the production and viola:

Thanks, Carlos and Kyle! Sincerely. I am working on the edges surrounding the deflector dish using layers of CA. Then it occured to me - I'm glassing the edges like a surfboard. So yeah. Welcome to Southern California, Fellas.

Hah, I hadn’t thought about making a surfboard in ages. I remember when I was a kid at my friend’s house around the corner his brother would make his own surfboards in the garage.

Carlos, yeah, when I first moved one of my first friends was a hard core surfer and I learned how to glass edges and fix his boards in Venice, California before all the mega mansions began to crowd out the surf shops and the homeless. Progress is inevitable but whether this was good or bad I won't begin to judge. This was on Indiana Avenue just blocks from the beach. I bet you had some good times!

Yes, I had good times at the beach and on the water later on. I was in elementary school when I hung out at that kids house. A very different OC back then…

To boldly GLOW. . .
Oh, these MACRO shots are killing me. Every scrape, scratch is revealed.
Fellas I know it's still rough and not quite there yet but it's hard to mess up when the design is a thing of beauty and has been translated quite well. Not faint praise. I still see all the rough but that's of my own doing. A special note on the "stand" I'm using. These were originally sold as cigar stub holders by a local artist. I have a pair I use to hold my wet paint brushes but this one stand will be useful to keep the model upright while I'm working on the whatever this is - secondary fuselage? Hull 2? I still need to build a cradle. Series Reference:

Seams to fill. I am not sure why the center is not filled. I thought I filled it with gap filling CA. Apparently not very well! Also debating whether to sand off the raised window markings. I think so. I will mask and paint windows on both sides.

The secondary hull is coming along great Bruce. Just do another dose of gel CA & sanding, and then you’ll be fine on those remaining gaps.
I’m not sure how to approach those windows at this point… 🤔

The secondary hull is coming along great Bruce. Just do another dose of gel CA & sanding, and then you’ll be fine on those remaining gaps. I’m not sure how to approach those windows at this point… 🤔 I think I am going to mask the window areas using Tamiya tape. I’m not sure how to make circles easily, though. Any ideas for a masking solution, one that doesn’t involve buying a template? Beautiful progress here!! That’s really starting to look the part. Thanks so much, sincerely I was starting to worry about using gap-filling CA because it levels out imperfectly, but I was able to stay in the zone and be patient.

Beads, with holes in them, from Muriel Chastenet Jewelry in Westwood Village. Their shop has been in business for 60 years.

Here is the smallest of the beads, cemented with CA to the deflector post. I whittled down the post to a point to insert the bead. What looks small in my hand looks a bit out of scale when mounted. I am not sure how to proceed. The bead is mounted securely and centered well on the post itself. A little out of scale is still out of scale, though. That makes me a little less confident that the added detail is worth the effort.

Scratch that. The bead is at a slight angle. I have to think about this a bit more. I feel like masking then spraying primer just on the bead itself to get the best idea what is happening.
