Hi gents, This is my contribution to this GB. I think the rules may have been flexed a little to allow it's inclusion so thanks for that!! Hoping someone can clarify, being a StarSHIP, so do I refer to main portion as a hull like a ship or a fuselage because it flies like a plane?? There's not a lot of parts to this kit, my bad for not taking a picture of the sprues. I'll be building it OOB but my interpretation of the colours. I'm hoping to gain some practice here for the FW190 build. Rightly or wrongly, I used grey primer before going over it with Vallejo metallic aluminium as the base coat. Following the instructions that came in the box set of paints, I'll spray some other panel in dark aluminium and silver for variation. The instructions called for a light gray colour but I hope this will be better. I have painted a few of the smaller pieces in their primary colours. This was mainly to get a feel for the different shades involved such a steel and gun metal. I have painted some parts in Tamiya to get a different effect from the metallic finishes. The cockpit is done in steel. I hope that dry brushing and detail painting will bring it to life, all in a subdued way.

Slave I was ever one of my favorite ships of the universe. And maybe the rules were flexed a bit but it still looks to be a pretty big beastie you’ve got there. Really looking forward to seeing it. Looks like a nice kit. As for terminology, I think you’re fine calling it a hill or a fuselage or whatever you’d like. Lol

I'm In on this one. Hull is a proper term for a space faring vehicle. Not all Quat Drive Yards Firespray blast boats were painted like Fetts' Paint it however you like!! I have the Revell, Razorcrest sitting waiting its turn at greatness. You are off to a fine start for certain!

Beautiful start. Love the color variations on the hill. And the beauty of sci fi stuff is the color callouts matter even less than they usually do. It’s all made up! Ha. I like the gold tone. Very cool.

Love all the different shades for the panels and am looking forward to seeing what you do with this in the weathering department Tim. Earthmoving machine....

I've painted some of the panels different shades. Hard to see the silver tones in the photos but the dark aluminium and steel on the 'vents' is easier to see. I've now started on a few of the minor subassemblies. After looking at a few of the aircraft builds here, I think that maybe I should have done more sub builds first and got the fuselage together before painting, but I'm hoping the camo and weathering will hide any assembly blemishes.
Slave 1 although a "starship" spent much of it's time in some of the most inhospitable atmospheres in the universe. It was shot at, crash landed, and just generally beat on for most of it's existence. It should be so heavily weathered that the very worst possible assembly blemishes would just look like part of the finish.

I really love how those colors laid down! Very smooth. I too hope the weathering hides any seams as that paint doesn’t deserve to be messed up 🍻

Haven't had much bench time lately, but have managed to get a bit more paint on. Not sure what these pieces are called, but they are the bits that the stubby wings/flaps mount to. Unweathered yet but I felt a little detail painting was needed instead of the plain matt grey suggested. This is the rear facing side of the starship. Still have another 2 colours to go before I can start the detail painting. Getting a feel for the Tamiya paints. haven't weathered this side yet but thinking it's probably more subjected to 'exhaust' type weathering ??

That’s all looking fantastic. Loving your color choices to pick out details. I would certainly agree that side would have exhaust/engine heat weathering. Great stuff so far.

This is looking good so far Tim. I really like seeing you build this kind of subject matter given the talent that you've got on your rigs. Love what you're doing here.

I also want to point out the absolute very best part about building anything sci-fi. It’s 100% entirely made up. You can weather it exactly how you want to in every single aspect and no one can put a word of argument against you. It’s fictional after all. This is making me want to drag out one of my Star Wars kits!!

Yup, Slave 1 has had a rough life through multiple owners. It should be quite beat and weathered. This is a good one for a severe hairspray chipping method. That's what I have planned for mine. You are doing fabulous here. Watching....

Good thing I have a Bandai slave I floating around.

Some paint won't chip, others peel rather than chip, while others chip in various degrees of control. I cannot stress enough to NOT use Vallejo for chipping, it would rather peel up. TAMIYA is the paint to chip, it is awesome at it. Gunze is too tough and also solvent based. I stick to Tamiya when I chip as I know it will chip and I can get the control I need. Hope that helps.

Big fan of alcohol based acrylics like Tamiya and I do use a lot of Gunze so that’s good to know it’s too tough. Appreciate it.

Brandon, are you talking about the Gunze lacquer or aqueous paints? Aqueous line is similar to the Tamiya acrylics aren’t they? I have a few bottles of that stuff too.
