While I wait on paints and parts coming from overseas for the Hetzer and the Sd.Kfz 251, I will make a go at this very odd machine. I saw a picture of this vehicle in one of my books and thought it’d be a nice addition to the display shelves. I chose this particular variant for the dark yellow livery. I’ll emulate the same process I did for my recently completed Tiger I. I have a set of Friul metal tracks and an aftermarket DKM flag I’ll mount in the aft compartment.

Awesome! I always wanted to get one of those but I chickened out every time! Maybe you will change my mind… good luck man! I have had this kit in my hand at various hobby shops at least 6 times. Not really sure why I kept putting it back. Can't wait to see one get built.

What is the Model # of the Fruil tracks you have for this kit?

YES! Those are awesome. I used them on my DUKW and they look great. Can't beat using the real thing... I dipped them into a cup of tea to stain them darker in case you want to do the same.

Just received my Friulmodel tracks direct from Hungary. As a bonus, they also included the final drive sprockets that replace the factory supplied parts which are undersized.

Since these were operated by pioneer units, I assume the crews had Heer pioneer uniforms?? Or were they DKM style uniforms? Does anyone produce pioneer figures in 1/35 that would work with this vehicle?

Or... There is the Italeri Schnellboat crew which is easy to get. They are navy uniforms but with the life vests you could get away with it by painting the right colour.

Nice! The rivets look much better on the metal ones. Looks like tcoat has answered your questions... I never thought what kind of figures that will work with the LWS if I ever build one and I have learned something today.

boy, that is an odd DUKW...see what I did there? I'll let myself out.
That is a very interesting subject. Having a source for the bumpers just amazes me...but it really shouldn't

So far so good. The difficulty level is a bit deceiving. Parts fit is not great, mold lines are tough to clean on some parts, and detail is very soft in some areas and needs scratch improvements if 100% accuracy is your thing. It feels like they had a great idea but rushed it to market without the necessary QA/QC. You’ll need to flex some modeling chops on this one for sure.

Thanks for the good information for my future build. How is that book as a reference for this vehicle?

If you’re really wanting to delve into the interior and exterior details, it’s a must. Many never before published interior and exterior pics of the LWS. If you’re just looking for something to gather a little background info, you’ll get the same info for free on the internet! 🍻
