I've wanted to start a new model for a couple of weeks now, but with too many unfinished kits on my deck I didn't want another one taking up space. Now that I've actually finished a handful, it's time to fill those spots with new stuff. This has been sitting in my mini-stash for about a year now. I went through and got all the base parts together... Then added mr surfacer 500 stippled on for texture. I'll probably sand alot of it down. After the primer I'm going to brush the paint on most of this.

So I haven't updated because I kind of feel this is the boring part of the build. Just filling lines and getting everything ready for paint. Black mr surfacer 1500 sprayed on then 500 to fill or cover imperfections. Should get to fun in a day or two.

Update... First I have to say I'm a dumbass. I primed all the parts before I was finished putting all the details on. Anyways.... After I finished, you know, building it, I sprayed mr surfacer mahogany 1000 on the unprimed parts, then sprayed it randomly over the parts I already sprayed black. Then I sprayed all the mechanical parts with mr color burnt iron. The burnt iron over the mahogany makes a really nice color. Tomorrow I'll start painting with some kind of grey. I've been playing around tonight with adding a bit of purple to different greys just trying to find a nasty color for the basecoat. I really want to do something different from what I normally do with this paint job. I've been watching a ton of videos on painting Ma.K. stuff. So I'm probably going to do some weird combo of some or all of it.

Nice subtle effects you are getting with your paint work so far.

I like the color modulation in the prep stages of the paint work that you're laying down MZ. All of these efforts prior to painting outta pay off in a good way on down the line.

Sorry, but looking at the box top art I can't help thinking "Hund" is a typo for "Huhn"... Cheers, M

Alright, I'm not sure I'm doing it right, but it looks alright, I guess... I did not use the grey/purple base. After doing a test piece, I probably maybe should have. Oh well... I thinned xf-60 dark yellow with mr level thinner 400, I don't know the ratio. I just mixed it until it was paintable. Then used an old beat up brush to apply it. Right now there are 2 coats on. I will probably go one more, then move to a lighter color.

I love what you are doing with this. Have you checked out Lincoln Wright's Paint on Plastic Youtube channel. He has a good video of this exact kit.

Actually I think I watched all his videos. Using an old brush is from him.
I got pretty far today. Got all inspired and stuff. I'll post some pics later.

Nope, I'm not a huge fan of books like these. Especially when he basically breaks down most of his techniques in his youtube videos.

Here's wher I'm at tonight.. Like I said, I got inspired. After the pics above, I very lightly stippled on another shot of the dark yellow. Then I made a mixture of the 400 and xf-59 desert yellow. Stippled that on lightly and randomly. Then added flat white to it and used a sponge to apply it randomly. Then used an old beat up sanding sponge and went over all the parts. I tried to sand down into the primer a little bit. Then I made a mix with xf-9 hull red and started the camo. I'm not really good at painting camo, so I was a little apprehensive. I used the wrong brush for the hull red and got some bad shapes that looked very brushed on. I then made a mix with xf-88 dark green 2 and cover a bit of the hull red. I think I didn't thin the green enough as it went on a bit too thick. Then went backnand tried to correct the hull red. Sanded all of that down again with the old sanding sponge. Then with a normal sponge went over everything with the base dark yellow. I might add some more green and red. I'm going for a look similar to the box art. There's definitely more color on that. It's weird brush painting like this. I haven't brush painted an entire kit since I was a kid, like late 80s'ish.

It looks great! I really like the texture you are getting from the brush, it adds a character to the model that typically isn't present.

On the worn texture, I felt it looked a little too even, so this morning I added some color back into some of the camo and added some more color randomly, then resanded... I'm not completely happy with it, but I have weathering and armor piece yet to apply. Like 100 armor pieces... I wasn't paying attention while building the rest how many of these pieces there were. I textured all of them with plastic weld. Both sides. I just wanted to see if I can get some different effects this way.

I'll get some weathering on them soon. I feel like I need to do a little repair on the yellow. When I sprayed the gloss I felt like I removed too much of it in a few areas. I also got a different shade on the missle tubes then everything else.

Mate I wouldn't bother with repairs. Could be replacement parts, or repaired battle damage....
