I suspect we've all been in the same spot. You are close to the end of the current build, and you are staring at your stash and asking yourself, which one to build next? At the moment, I'm struggling with this exact question, which made me wonder how my fellow modelers on MSC go about choosing their next build?

I have not built enough yet to have a process. Everything besides my 2 current builds were requests from my son. So I guess technically that is my process? Maybe toss your three favorites up on this post and lets have a vote? That could be fun?

Some poor kit sitting in my stash just calls out to me in the night and I blindly obey. I have zero clue what makes me decide what is next.

I've been trying to decide between an "all-in" build with lots of aftermarket parts or a simpler, out-of-the-box build. Depending on which way I go the kit choice might vary. For the easier OOB build the candidates I've fallen hard for the MA.K stuff The Duster holds particular appeal to me. A Duster (not AFV) was the first model kit I ever built as a kid. Looks like a fun build For the more complicated build options: This is the one I've had in my head, and I want to try my hand at scratch building an interior when I build this kit. There is quite a bit of AM available for this one. I just got this one

Half the time, my next build is decided by a GB from some site or club that I’m part of. Actually it’s probably most of the time. But now and then I get a wild hare brained idea and grab one from my stash for some reason, or I occasionally decide for one reason or another, it’s time to build this one or that one…

That VOMAG looks AWESOME. Id build that, and in between if you need a break or to step away and do something simple you could do the Duster.

I usually grab a kit from my stack open it up and stare at it, then close it put it back and buy a one I saw someone else built that inspired me or for a Group Build

It's different each time, sometimes I have a queue set up in my head ahead of time, sometimes I slog thru a more complicated kit and need a Tamiya cleanser, other times I read a book, see a movie,or someone else's build that moves me,maybe im in a group build,or finally some new shiny kit is released and it jumps the line.

One other thing I like to add to my “on deck” projects for the past several years is pull one or two off of the shelf of doom long sidelined builds at the end of the year and get those across the finish line. I’m slowly whittling down my population of that shelf. Those always feel like a great way to close out a year, along with wrapping up any kits started in the late summer or early fall that I have going.

My problem is more about deciding what not to build. I want to work on all of them, all at the same time. Darn squirrels!

Only what has been already finished in my mind has a chance of getting chosen. I always have a pretty clear imagination what I want to achieve and if I feel up to the challenge and I'm in the mood, there you go.

It's which one should I work on some more. That and hoping I'll finally get one of those done. The only new kits I would start on would be because of a GB

Hmm... I do participate in group builds so there's that. But I honestly don't know. I have 100 airplane kits and 60 car models and the last kit I finished was the one dinosaur model I have lol. Sometimes I just want to build something shiny - yesterday I started on an airliner - MD-80 in TWA livery. I have some projects planned that I'll get to as well. I guess it's whatever catches my eye in the stash.

Most of my decisions are easy....whatever it is I am being paid to build! I do like to work in multiples, so I'll usually pull something from my own stash that is the same or similar, with the same paints to be used.

Group builds have helped me choose more than anything. Other than that it’s almost like reach into the stash closet and grab something. I also have no idea.

Brian - This does happen to all of us. Best thig I have found is to stop looking at the stash. Wrap up my current build. When that is done I clean off and organize the bench, then walk away. The time away I do my usual, hit the range throw some lead. Sit in the command chair in the living room with a cup of java and surf the modeling sites and spend some time on useless tube watching other people build. I find within a couple of days a bulb goes off in my small brain and I effortlessly pick the next build.
I find looking at the stash over and over trying to contemplate what my next build will be I start asking myself why did I buy all of this and I don't want to build it........ "ITS A TRAP!"
Anyway, hope that helps.
-Bob

Same here. GB's are usually how the next kit gets chosen (although I almost never finish in the time allotted). Other times it's just whatever kit gets me excited to build it.
Now if I could quit getting attacked my Xacto knives and finish a damn kit.

GB's help me choose. Like the Starfighter cockpit I'm working on now for the BSGB. At the beginning of every year, I try and map out a sort of, maybe, could finish these this year, plan

I'd love to see you build Vomag soon... got the same kit few weeks ago. I would have started it right away if it wasn't for ongoing GBs. LOL
