Messing around with colors. This train build is simple but really fun! This is a bad photo but I also painted the tracks last night. Ill do another coat to touch up the areas I missed. Also after that I think ill dab a bit of rust on each of the bolts. Ill get a better picture, garage lighting was not working with me last night haha.

Need a good heavy but uneven black wash on the ties. They are all treated with creosote so should be more blackish than brown.

More painting parts black... haha Plan for today WAS to hopefully mount the body on the wheels But I have discovered some broken tabs which will make it more difficult. Just have to devise a simple way to mount these pieces here and we can move on.

While glue was drying on my cabinet I started cutting up some foam board to prep for the train's diorama.

Went shopping around for the landscape portion of this diorama base. I was pretty surprised at how expensive it could get. While watching tutorial videos of how to apply everything I found this landscape kit. Its meant to be a a training kit to learn before building a full on train table I guess. Works perfect for me. Has everything I need for less than $20. They gray ballast to simulate the rocks on the tracks were extra but $6

Great work so far. For the broken pins, if at all possible, I file them off flat, drill them out to take a metal pin such as part of a paperclip, cut a matching piece of round rod and drill it out to take the other end of the pin. I find this stronger than trying just to add to the plastic. Please excuse me if I'm preaching to the choir here!

Hate to hear the luck with the broken tabs James. This is indeed looking rather stellar and you're putting forth some really good efforts on an old kit. Looking forward to seeing the magic unfold in future updates on progress as well as recovery efforts.

Ill most likely do something like this, if not exactly like this. Hate to hear the luck with the broken tabs James. Looking forward to seeing the magic unfold in future updates on progress as well as recovery efforts. Thanks Joe! Not much of a real setback. Just makes you approach something a but differently. Nice find! I'll be watching how you pull the base together with all of this Im pretty excited. It will be my first time. Ive got some other items on the way also to fancy it up a bit.

Needs a little touch up here and there but I am ok with this. I will paint the sides I just have not decided if I should do it green or black or.. brown?? Suggestions? Might make a small wood pallet or something trash related to liven it up haha. Was struggling for a long time with applying the glue. Coming out so thick from the sprayer until stepped back and examined the sprayer thinking it was clogged. Nope, had this inserted piece you need to remove.. WHO DOES THAT?! Once it was removed it sprayed a fine mist of glue and I started rolling. Just need to clean up some clumps caused by saturated clumped up glue drops.

You pulled that whole landscaping and track work off to the point of looking quite the part. Funny about the sprayer piece that had to be removed and I'm still a bit confused as to why it was there in the first place. Weird. Looking forward to more on this beauty of a build up.
