Pink primer for this one since it contains yellow. Turns out the issue with this kit is the nose section rather than the engine cover. It wants to pop up. I had it lightly glued but as you can see it has escaped again. This won’t be a big deal once I permanently attach things. The standard procedure on these kits is to cut the suspension arms off, drill holes and pin them back in after paint. I’ve done it both ways and have since decided the suspension arms don’t really affect me that much one way or the other so now they stay.

Kyle, Now that's some collection of the old AMT 1/25 scale Cart cars. I've still got two in the stash and indy Cal decals for them, but never started either kit as the front suspension always was a worry issue for me. Don't laugh but it never entered my thought process not to try and remove the seam line on both sides. Really looking forward to seeing how you handle it.

I did the traditional way of removing the suspension and cleaning up the seam one time. And then I quickly decided that was more trouble than it was worth for these kits. At least for me. They’re nice little kits if you take them for what they are. So now I wire the plugs, maybe add some harnesses and stick them together. The seam line is just a part of the kit and isn’t worth the trouble to remove. The tires hide some of it, the liveries draw your eyes and I’m happy with how they look on the display shelf!!

Coming along very nice, Kyle. Thanks!! Got some paint down now. We’ll see if it turned out or if it needs to go for a bath like 1/2 of my Indy car builds seem to. 😂😂

Well sometimes (most times who am I kidding) I get in my own way. Tried to use an old partial can of paint for the blue. Apart from me feeling it’s a bit too dark it also crazed a little on the engine cover. I think I may strip this and start again. Make sure I get the crazed section cleaned up ok. I’m not upset. My two tone liveries spend a lot of time in the purple pond. Here’s a photo. I haven’t seen this car in person but in some photos the blue looks quite dark like this. However I think I want it to be brighter. Not sure if that’s correct just sort of where I want it to be. More soon. May hop into the Lotus if I decide to dunk this

KLyle, I seen this car a million times on tv which doesn't mean much when Michael Andretti raced it, but I also have the AMT kit and the pictures on the box ( which has been stored in a dark closet for years) looks just a tad lighter. Then again each computer monitor and graphics card shows the same image slightly differently no matter if they're color adjusted or not. Personally, I'd go with that color Blue.
One last thought about the seam Under the front suspension. It occurred to me that Vallejo's plastic Acrylic putty just may solve this issue for me.

I’m sitting on the blue for a minute while I ponder what direction I want to go. This isn’t horrible just at the very least will need some sanding and touching up. Appreciate your input on the real car.

Personally I like the blue, but if you’re not happy, dunk away. I do have to give you credit. You’re brave enough to show and share when things don’t go the way you wanted. I honestly don’t show my mistakes, I feel embarrassed, but I know I’m human just like the rest of us. Remember the Ford GT. I had to repaint the main body 3 times, talk about frustration. But the final result is what it’s all about.

As for the mistakes. You do work on a different plane, my friend. Never anything to be embarrassed about even if you have to redo something. The work on the GT paid off for you. Also, If I didn’t show my goofs I wouldn’t have much to show at all. LOL. I really appreciate you coming along for the ride with this one.

Kyle, Now that's really outstanding in it's Sunday best. With the paint demarcation line right on the parts line, the front suspension worked out perfectly

Coming along nicely Kyle!
I really love that blue as it pops off the yellow - such a tricky color for good coverage yellow - but you nailed it nicely my friend I look forward to seeing this bad boy come together - I love this era of indy cars man - so sweet! Thank you. Yellow is tricky for sure. And so many open wheel cars with yellow. Lol. Never knew pink primer was needed for yellow. Learn something new every day! Ah…it changes the tone and helps with coverage. But it all depends on what color yellow you want. Like a Pennzoil car I’d probably use white primer. I’ve played with a lot of builds and spoons. Lol. Thanks for the tip on the pink primer man - never knew that! Gotta use it on my Jordan J197 when the time comes Check it out on a spoon or some scrap plastic. The yellow covers it great but it does change the tone of the yellow a bit so it’s about what you want.

I never thought of pink primer under yellow. That I have to try, I hate painting yellow.
Kyle, that blue looks right to me.

yellow is the hardest color for me to air brush as well. I end up air brushing nearly twice as many coats as any other color. Even white is easier to lay down. But it's the end results that counts, and usually it looks just fine after decals and gloss.

They help cover my mistakes!! 😂 Never knew that about using pink for primer on yellow either but it makes sense. Great tip Kyle. Yeah, Give it a shot some time!!

Kyle, Yep, decals can cover up some minor issues, but some times it's the decal that I've screwed up. Thank goodness for Indu Cals Oops policy. It's saved me more then a few times over the years.

Kyle, Since the GB goes on for a full year, maybe I'll just do one of my AMT kits with a few dozen choices of Indy Cal decals later on and go for 3 entries.

They are fun little kits if you just take them for what they are. And if your engine cover doesn’t fit check one from a different kit. Some of them are better than others Lol.

I have had a productive couple days at the bench. Cockpit is done other than installing the steering wheel and IP and body halves are now permanent. I’m relatively pleased with how that looks.

Kyle, Just an impressive update. Love how the Indy Lola Cosworth paint is turning out.
As a side note, looking at your build really brings back some fond memories of those racing years, and just how beautiful those cars were to the way the current generation of 2012 Dallaras look.
To bad that we've yet to see if ever another run of these kits. I'd buy a good 1/2 dozen of each car type as Michael at Indy Cals has plenty of decal options.
