For my first build in this group build I’ll be doing the venerable AMT Lola. We all have seen this kit and it remains one of my favorites to build. They’re simple kits but plenty detailed and can build up really nice. This is the Arie Luyendyk/ Dic k Simon Racing boxing but I won’t be doing that livery. (Did you guys know that you can't say Dic k on here? I just found out Apologies to Mr. Simon) I like it but the decals were shot in this one. Here’s a look at the parts. Decals from Indycals to build the Kraco Lola. Wasn’t a fan of their drivers but I do really like the blue and yellow.

Well, I got a start on this one after work this morning. Having built this one a few times I mostly know what I'm doing with it...However, just in case, AMT/Ertl has provided us with this conveniently sized set of instructions. For old Ertl stuff this kit is pretty ok, in my opinion. However, one thing you can always count on is in all these identical kits is that they are far from identical. The engine cover is a usual trouble spot so I like to see how it sits right off the bat. Glue the lower body skirts on to the undertray first and see what we've got. Which in this case is pretty solid. Then the transaxle and engine halves are glued together with the halfshafts trapped inside. And cylinder heads and front cover is glued on as well. As you can see, the detail isn't bad. Add some wires and it comes to life. The entirety of the chrome tree is currently in the pond as it is always absurdly thick. I'll keep the chrome wheels in some cases (Penske cars) but normally the whole thing goes for a dip. That is all for now.

I imagine those instruction sheets were designed to protect the dining room table from sloppy 11 year olds lol. Great start!

That black color scheme looks awesome. I should have done that with my Amway car and picked up some decals.

That black color scheme looks awesome. I should have done that with my Amway car and picked up some decals. Definitely Steve!! The Provimi car is a looker and a nice simple paint scheme!! And Indycals has the decals. I’ll likely build it one day.

That's a better fitting engine cover than I ever got. Yes, I appear to have gotten lucky with this one. Lord knows the engine covers are always a crap shoot in these.

Nice subject Kyle, should be a fun one to tackle. Thanks Chris. I always enjoy these old AMT kits despite how primitive they are. I enjoy the old kits too. It's a challenge to make a model out of a toy. And by the time I'm done, it would have been less work and probably cheaper to just get the MFH kit in the first place!
But that's half the fun (or so I keep telling myself)

But that's half the fun (or so I keep telling myself) The work you do on old, and known terrible kits is truly inspiring Paul. I always love seeing what you can do with whatever you've chosen to start out with. It never fails to impress.

So while waiting for some pieces of the F14 to dry I went ahead and tackled most of the work on the Cosworth. I’ll likely add ignition wires and it still needs the turbo and piping and exhaust obviously but got a good start. Just did a super light dry brush over the Cosworth to show some detail.

I'm sure you've already thought this Kyle, but when I wired mine the engine cover didn't fit - not that it fit that well to begin with.
