So after painting Statues for a few years I had a solid hankering to build another Tamiya F1 kit - there is just something so amazing about these early Tamiya F1 models that really get me so excited to build. My passion for everything F1 is sky high at the moment so it's all about Formula One race cars right now I had to choose from a Collection that my LHS just purchased and so I decided on the Iconic NIKON entry of 1995. Nothing special about this car performance wise unfortunately, as neither driver had any podiums or wins. The Tyrrell 023 was a Formula One car designed by Harvey Postlethwaite and Mike Gascoyne for use by the Tyrrell team in the 1995 Formula One World Championship. The car was driven by Japanese Ukyo Katayama, in his third season with the team, and Finn Mika Salo, in his first full season of F1 after driving for Lotus in the final two races of 1994 Designed by Harvey Postlethwaite and Mike Gascoyne,[1] the 023 featured a new hydraulic-controlled front suspension system, known as "Hydrolink", which Tyrrell had been testing since February 1995.[3] It used a 3-litre version of the Yamaha V10, which had been raced the previous year.[1] The team retained all its 1994 backers including Mild Seven, BP, Fondmetal, Calbee, Club Angle and Zent. This was partly helped by the fact that new team driver Mika Salo brought $3 million with him to the team which resulted in their new sponsor Nokia.[4] Ukyo Katayama, who had driven for the team since 1993, remained on the roster. Nothing spectacular really happened with this Japanese Backed Entry in the 1995 Season, but I can see why Tamiya wanted to make this kit and despite it's somewhat abysmal one F1 season I am personally so glad they did because this is just such a unique and iconic livery. I love building these Tamiya 1/20 F1 golden year cars, the workmanship is second to none and the realism that can be created with the real rubber tires, Tamiya's accurate molds, and all the now available Top Studio Detail up sets that can be purchased, I am going to load this build up with a lot of extra scratch built parts, photo etch and detail up additions.

Awesome Adrian!! Glad you found your way into the group build board!! I just love what you’re doing with this beauty. As you say, just a great looking livery and your paint and decals are showing it off beautifully.

Some really clean engine work going on in here Adrian. I have never built one of these F1 cars even though I did have one in my stash a long time ago. The detail that is in these kits is astounding but then again......it IS a Tamiya kit that we're talking about.

I created these little rascals last night - scratch built heat shields for covering both exhaust pipe exits in the floor. Metal and shaped and then wet sanded to get to this chrome like finish.

Wow stellar work. What paints are you using? Looking good! Thanks Mate! To be honest when it comes to paints I am all over the map - I try to go 100% Acrylic whenever possible but still use certain lacquers. I'm loving the new Metals and within acrylics the Gundam paints are the richest hues at least I've found - but I buy Vallejo, AK, Mecha .. usually depends on what medium I'm painting. I love mixing so I rarely if ever apply a straight color, its almost always a mix/unique hue.

This kit has been on my radar for quite some time and I hope to find one sometime. Your build is REALLY making me want to find one. It’s a great looking chassis and livery. Beautiful work on the engine and the cockpit pieces. The seat and belts look awesome. And those heat shields. Awesome job, my friend!!

Adrian, YOur build is certainly up to your super high standards. Pure quality work for sure. The Body shell paint, decaling, and polishing is perfect as Usual. As for the engine/trans the metallics look as they should especially with your oily weathering. cockpit dash and wheel really came out great, but the 5 way racing harness is in a class of it's own. Can't wait for your next update.
This weekend is the Indy Car Toronto race which I believe is only on Peacock, which I no longer subscribe to. Are you going to the race?
And speaking of Indy Car, how about posting a spread of your Indy Car build that you did right before your medical time off. I'm positive that everyone would love it.

I actually purchased TSN + in order to watch the Copa America Soccer because of Canada, and as a result I got the Indy stuff as well, so between that and the F1 race it will be a full weekend of motor racing magic I wish I was going but funds are not there right now for such things. I used to work the race as a kid and have many fond memories of races gone by, hopefully its an entertaining one this weekend - it usually is

Adrian, WOW!!!!
Those money shots are really amazing. The engine compartment is weathered perfectly; not to much, not to little, just right. As usual your tires are always one of the highlights of your builds, as it your attention to the disc brakes.
You're quickly raising your bar to a higher and higher standard. But knowing you I'm more then confident that you'll attain even higher bars with builds still to come.

Your encouragement honestly means so much - I think she is coming together nicely at the moment, the next big test as always will be getting a glass like clear coat finish on that body - always makes me nervous when I am testing a new method
