*DISASTER*

Well on Saturday I said okay it's been a crazy long work week and so I am going to give
myself the weekend off from modeling despite the obvious pull towards the bench that
will inevitably come. 

It came and I tried to resist and said okay I will just try some buffing on the body - well
like an idiot I went to hard at it after warming up the clear and burnt out a section on the
nose!! I honestly couldn't believe it - I should have left it bloody well alone - but no...

I tried to stay calm and set about fixing it - had to wet sand down the entire area and then 
set about paint matching the blue of the decal - not easy but i think I managed to get dang
close - however you guys will be the judges of that. So I have set about fixing it and I will
post pics once I have prepped it for another clear coating session - the 3rd now.

So feeling very frustrated at myself I set set about trying to make up for this stupid mistake
by forging ahead with the other must do's - the suspension and the Tire assembly to the brake
assembly - the attachment of the rear wing to the uprights and finishing off the steering column
and the shocks section of the rear suspension.

I honestly won't be okay until I have completed the re clear of the body and see that I was able
to correct the burnt section back to it's original finish - wish me luck guys! Argh....

Looking forward to the paint recovery on this Adrian. I've not had this happen before with rubbing through the paint but I'm sure it's bound to happen sooner or later for me. If your recovery efforts are like the rest of this build then you're going to be ok. Love the detail work as well as the tire/ wheel work. Good show man.

Thank you sir! I think I need a few days away from the bench to get over the disappointment and re-focus
so that I can pull off as close to a perfect repair as possible. I'm very hard on myself for things like this, as
I should know better.

Thanks for posting that picture. I've used their Yellow cap LT before I found Mr. Color's Leveling Thinner 400 which has retarder in it. The Orange cap is Tamiya's version of it. I've used both and the results are Identical for me.

I also adapted the light even coats for primer and color coats with a few min in between coats to let that coat gas off some. Color has then has 2 wet coats. Clear Gloss the same: two tack coats, 1 wet coat, then a final wet coat thinned to a water constancy, which is Done by eye.

Like Joseph, I'm sure most of us has just pushed the polishing process 1 stoke to far, and gone is the clear, and the paint. So I know all to well the empty sinking feeling in your gut. And like you, I just have to go that one step to far on way to many builds.

The paint color on my monitor looks like an excellent match but wet vs dry is a real tough call. Needless to say that I'm looking forward to your next update with the results.

Thanks Joel! I really appreciate your opinion as you well know, and was hoping to hear from you today

It's just very frustrating because I know better than to start a session of any kind no matter how long
unless I am 100% focused or as we all know to well, Murphy will be present and in full form. I was a rookie
mistake but You are bang on with wet vs. dry color matching so i made it slightly lighter and I'm hoping
that I matched it at least within 95% and I will chalk it up to a long week and when this type of thing 
happens I have to force myself to take a day to refocus and get in a positive mind set again or attempting 
the repair it pointless.

I painted the blue and then hit it with a shot of flat clear to allow me to wet sand hopefully to a very close
match once I then apply the 3rd round of clear.

Maybe everything happens for a reason because I did find a slight drip on one side of the front pod so it
has allowed me to correct that - I am a firm believer that there is always a silver lining - sometimes it's
easier to see than others, but it's always there to be found

The correction to the paint was just that little extra touch. I'm betting after reading your touch up process, that it will be nearly impossible to find what Michael of Indy Cals calls an "Oops". And no body has more Oops then I do. I just kind of forget to post some of them.

Adrian, first off I’m very sorry that happened. I know how frustrating that can be. I also know you’ll do a bang up job fixing it and no one will be the wiser. Beautiful detail work on the IP, wheels and tires and engine and suspension bits. That’s all looking wonderful.

So just a quick update as work has been crazy and so time at the bench has been scarce of late.

Started making the diorama base for the Tyrrell to sit on as it's final resting place - Got a nice piece of 
plexiglass 10x5 and glued sand paper down to mimic ash fault, and then will paint flat black on all sides and
on the bottom - plexy is a great way to get a real heavy solid base without the cost of steel - I got this piece
from my guy for 10 bucks  

Got my food hydrator the same day and baked the body of my Zakspeed and came out nice and hard and baked solid.

I will bake everything now even in between coats as it will prevent any long term splintering etc - best 60 bucks I ever spent!

I am in the process of the final clear coat and after that it will be very close to assembly time.

Test fit will likely be this weekend.

The Plexi base looks terrific. As for the Tyrrell shell in the new Dehydrator, it should bake to the perfect hardness as the unit looks like a high end quality one for sure.

Looks good. I like plexi a lot but it's expensive. I used to go to a place in San Diego called Ridout plastics and they had a bin of left over material for dirt cheap. Great for modelers!

Well at last the front wing is complete ... probably the most difficult front wing I have ever produced and tested my patience that's
for sure lol ... but now I am wondering if I should clear coat it or leave it flat - I kind of like the flat look however it is glossy in real life.

The body is ready for clear now as well, so this weekend I will clear and bake both the body and the wing and the rear assembly is complete (pics to come) so the next step will be final assembly once these pieces are baked and ready to go!

Is the black just exposed carbon on the real car? I’m guessing it is. But no matter what I like the flat. I like contrasts of color shades and finishes though. Whatever you decide it’ll look great. Awesome job on the front wing.

The front wing really looks good. Since I'm a purist, I'd go for the same finish as the car actually had for that race. And the paint repair looks perfect.

Update:

Although there are a few small steps like hitting certain areas with flat still to be done, for the most part
the back end and tray are complete awaiting the body.

I assembled the body to this section last night and it is in the dryer as we speak.

I am aiming to have the front suspension and wheel assembly done tonight, and with 
the final additions such as antennas etc. to be done tomorrow I am hoping I should
be posting completed photos this weekend if all goes smoothly with the front assembly.

The engine/trans/rear suspension look fantastic mounted into the frame.

I can't believe that you're nearly done with your 2nd build for the GB and I'm still working on my 1st one. Talk about old and very slow.
