Since my Panzer IV is now in the painting phase, I need a project to begin the Build Phase on, and I’ve been wanting to model “Sweetie” the Razorback for a long time. So off we go.

Man everytime I see one of these Tamiya P47 builds I really want to get one. Great start! I’ve said it before and I’ll keep sayin it- TAMIYA’s P47-D kits are some of the absolute best kits around. I cannot recommend it enough and I’d love to see what you’d do with one, Keav.

Bookmarked! Great looking detail to the side panels! Thank you! I’m taking what I’ve learned so far in my creative reboot and applying it to aircraft. Also- I have started playing WARHAMMER 40K and I’m currently in the process of building my own army of Space Marines. That’ll be a whole lot of brush painting, something I am heretofore unfamiliar with in the context of models. So, everything in that cockpit that isn’t green has been brush painted. I used to carefully mask stuff so I could do things like black boxes with the airbrush too, and then dry brush, that was about it. This time I actually painted the boxes, air hose, etc. with the brush. So THANK YOU!!

Got some more cockpit work done, including instrument panel, the dials for which I cut out individually from a sheet of instrument decals I bought a while back. It does take some extra effort but it’s worth it. My stand-in for “Dark Dull Green”’ was Tamiya Dark Green 2 (IJN) mixed with a little Deck Tan, for theee reasons: 1. it’s dark 2. it’s very, VERY dull 3. it’s green

That IP looks awesome. Really nice work cutting out those individual decals. It looks the part. And I like your green color. Very nice and dull. 😂

Great work on the ip! Getting the dial faces to orient correctly can be a chore but it looks like you nailed them perfectly.

Great work on the ip! Getting the dial faces to orient correctly can be a chore but it looks like you nailed them perfectly. Just don’t look too closely at it, otherwise you’ll discover that the dials themselves do not represent accurate depictions of P47-D dials with regards to their actual function, or placement! A real pilot, after boarding this aircraft and buckling up, would find himself terribly confused, and even if he did manage to effect a takeoff, would likely crash a short time later HAHAHAAAAA

😂😂 pity the poor 1/48 scale chap that tries to take off in your P-47 then. It really does look great though.

One just about HAS to like the cockpits in these old Jugs. The layout is perfect and they are among some of the biggest offices out there. You've replicated this one very well with all of the detailing and weathering Kenny. Looking forward to more on this.

Thank you, gentlemen. Your comments mean a lot to me.
One reason why I ended up in such a bad creative slump was dissatisfaction with my cockpits. I never once really felt like I did a good job. I’d look at other people’s cockpit work, like John Kim’s or Will Pattison’s, and I’d think “Man, I’ll never, EVER be that good.” And I ignorantly never bothered to compare my latter cockpit work with my former cockpit work, with a spirit of gratitude for any hints of improvement I might see.
Comparing ourselves with other people, they say, isn’t healthy.
Anyway, thank you for the kind words about my Jug’s cockpit. I appreciate them very much, they help me look past what I see as flaws, like the chromate yellow on the lid of the box there -the paint isn’t consistent- and focus on the improvements…
Plus nobody gonna see that kid anyway on account of I’m doing this build with the canopy closed and the flaps up. The details they see will be minimal through those little windows anyway.
But yeah fellas, THANK YOU, seriously. Your kind words make me feel better.

I hear what you're sayin' about comparing our own work to that of others like jkim. Folks like that seem to dang near have a patent on their process but you're right about it being unhealthy. We'll all get there in our own time. I had to learn that as well which is why I stopped building aircraft for so long but somewhere along the line I got over myself and started building warbirds once more. Keep at it Kenny.....this here is some good stuff man.

A nice cockpit is a fine thing, but a finished model is better! As for aftermarket, it's a lot of money and feels like cheating. But sometimes it feels good too. It's a puzzlement!
